The Setting

Christ had been rejected by the religious leaders (as was prophesied) which led to his lament over Jerusalem.
He had just prophesied that he would come again. This time at the rejoicing of the entire nation of Israel.
The significance of this prophecy is that God is not done with Israel yet!
Romans 11:1–2 NASB95
1 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?
Romans 11:25–27 NASB95
25 For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; 26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.” 27This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”

The Prophetic Statement

The destruction of the Temple
Herod’s temple had been in building nearly 45 years at this point, and it would continue for another 30 plus years.
The disciples asked three questions:
When will these things be (the destruction of the Temple)?
What will be the Sign of Your Coming?
And what will be the Sign of the End of the Age?
Jesus answered all three, starting with the last question.
