The Everyday Man
· Prayer
· Greetings
· Short introduction:
(a) There is a hand full of you that have been asking me when I am going to preach.
· Today is the day and I am blessed to be up here in front of you. Just remember you asked for it.
· I have been avoiding  preaching because  I do not believe that it is  my gifting.
· But  My view on preaching and teaching has changed.
· I pray that I will at least reach one of you.
· Timothy did not take it easy on me, the first question that I had  was, where we are preaching from, he said we will stay in Revelation… OH Great
· The topic of this sermon serious is where my heart is
(b) Blessed to be included with the men of this serios. I hold a high respect for all of them as mentors and friends. They are great examples of kingly men that have jobs, families, and hobbies but still make time to contribute to the Kingdom of God.
· They are everyday men doing extraordinary things in the Kingdom of God.
· Pat is an insurance broker
· Alex is an educator and athlete
· Jason has a construction company
· I was a car salesman.
Just ordinary men doing extra ordinary things that are changing peoples lives everyday through Christ.
· Pat ended his sermon last week with a Riddle catching us all off guard with the answer
· Deciding to jump is not the same as jumping. I heard the moans of realization.
· These men at one point in time jumped.
· I am not bragging on them because they do many great things. I am pointing out that they were everyday men who not only decided but jumped.
· No formal training
· Most have not been or had not been to seminary or fancy bible schools.
· They jumped and trusted the Holy Spirit would guide there actions, words, and resolve.
They are Everyday men
Before I found out what book we were preaching from, Timothy told me that we would be teaching on evangelizing and discipleship.
Immediately I heard THE EVERYDAY MAN in my head and knew this was going to be the topic of my sermon.
· Please don’t hear this as I am only talking about or to the men in this room this is for all to hear and for all to except the call.
That’s when Pastor Timothy gave me the verses, he wanted me to teach from
If you are able and willing please stand for the reading of Gods word.
Revelation 12:10–12 (ESV)
10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. 12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
As I finished reading the verse
· I was evident that I was an everyday man.
· How on earth am supposed to tie that to evangelism and discipleship.
· So I read it again and truthfully a few more times
· Now getting nervous
· Not only how do I tie evangelism and discipleship but I had already to Pastor my theme of the Everyday man.
So in my little bit of practice and training I thought to myself
· Self….We need to break this down to the root of things
1.          What is an Everyday Man
• Ordinary – an unremarkable, everyday person.
• Common– characteristics that resonate broadly across audiences.
• Relatable – designed to foster identification and empathy.
• Strength – used to explore shared experiences like morality, identity, and existence.
2) What evangelism
· “To evangelize” is to proclaim the good news of the victory of God’s salvation. “Evangelism” is the noun denoting that activity
3)        What is Discipleship?
· The Lexham Theological Workbook Defines it as this
· Discipleship is the process of devoting oneself to a teacher to learn from and become more like them. For the Christian, this refers to the process of learning the teachings of Jesus and following after his example in obedience through the power of the Holy Spirit. Discipleship not only involves the process of becoming a disciple but of making other disciples through teaching and evangelism.
After I broke it all down and re-read the verses
How do these three things tie to these verses
Out of all of the verses he had to pick these verses
And then I prayed on it for a few days.
Then I read it again and bam I had it
Verse 12
12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”
· We are at war
We are at war with the one who has come to steal, kill and destroy
While we go on about or lives worrying about the next purchase
Or about the most recent church gossip
Or what  political party so and so is a supporter of
· We are distracted by the one who knows that his time is limited
· he is on mission, are we?
Are we doing everything we can to protect the person sitting next to us in the pews today?
Are we doing everything we can do to make sure our coworkers know Jesus?
Are we living everyday like we are trying to reflect Christs’ light to those we encounter?
Are we certain that we have spent the time to find out if our loved ones know Jesus?
Some of us have
And some would like to.
And some of us never even think about it once they get home from church.
This is the work of the church, and just a few cannot do it alone.
Matter a fact one of the reasons that I left the church when I was younger was because I would go to church on Sunday and listen to an amazing sermon that I kind of understood and made me feel good for the day, but then Monday would come a long and life would punch me in the face. After that happening for many years, every time I would here a sermon I would think
Cool Story but it doesn’t work, or I am doing it wrong, and you Mr. Pastor are not showing me how.
You are all talk and know action. I will respect you when I see you come down off the altar and actually help someone.
Sounds Harsh I know, but now after a few years of counseling people through there quote unquote church hurt, I am not the only one who has felt that way
Then one day I realized I was wrong.
I was a man of God who was not doing what I had hoped someone would have done for me
How did I figure out I was wrong?
Because someone took the time to disciple me.
To help me understand the Gospel
To show me the truth of Gods word
To show me what a man of God was supposed to look like.
Changing my life forever
2 Timothy 2:2 says
and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
My question to you is
WHO ARE YOU TEACHING
We are blessed here at Vintage Church to be well versed in the bible and how to apply and study it.
Well over 60% of our regular members have been through a year if not to of deep theological study.
Who is one person that could benefit from your knowledge of God’s word.
Who is someone that you know is suffering and could use the love of God
Yes, many of us are busy, we have careers, families, and responsibilities. But we all have time to pick up the phone, meet someone for a weekly coffee, or invite them over for dinner.
If we truly believe that the only way to eternity with our heavenly father is through Jesus Christ, why have we not picked at least one person to pour into.
Who is your one?
Someone here, at work, at the ballfield, or at your family table is counting on you, praying that one day you will sit and help them understand.
You don’t need 10 years of preaching and teaching experience
You don’t need to be classically trained in evangelism
You don’t have to check with the Pastor for permission
All you need is to trust in the Holly Spirit and He will help you show them the light of Christ.
