Title: Rules You Can’t Rewrite; The Rule of Sin and Judgment
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
In a world of personal truth, shifting values fluid morality - in a society that is rewriting social norms and redefining principles that have stood as truth as long as man has lived, there are some things that remain true, clearly defined and absolute!
In the past weeks we have been teaching Rules You Can’t Rewrite.
Week one: Rule of God’s Authority
The Creation cannot argue with the creator
Authority flows from ownership
Rebellion; the original sin
Week two: Rule of Right and Wrong
Conscience is a witness, scripture is the standard
Society has no authority to redefine sin
Truth is not a democracy
Week three: Rule of Sin and Judgement
Remaining rules: Rule of Redemption and Rule of Identity and Purpose
Today’s Big Idea: Sin always leads to death.
Judgment is unavoidable—but does not have to mean death!
Rule Three: Rule of Sin and Judgement.
One of the great issues of today is the lie of tolerance.
One of the great lies that has been taught is that tolerance is a virtue - intolerance equals hate.
While we are instructed to be loving and compassionate, the bible teaches clearly that tolerance is actually hate.
To not stand for truth, to allow those you love, work with, live on the same street with - to live in sin is to hate them…
We have a responsibility to proclaim truth!
Jude 23 teaches us to rescue other from sin with compassion, being careful because sin always stains everything it touches!
Text:
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Wages of Sin is Still Death
The consequences of sin is death.
Physical death (Gen 3)
Spiritual death
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, And your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
Eternal separation/death
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Many people say well I’m a good person…
The vast majority of people in Lincoln today will tell you the hope to go to heaven - living in their sin!
THEY KNOW NO DIFFERENCE BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO ONE TO TELL THEM DIFFERENTLY!
The problem is EVERYONE HAS SINNED!
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
WE are all up against a clock!
One of these day’s we will pass from this life…
Everyone Has an Appointment
Hebrews 9:27 — “It is appointed… to die once, and after that, judgment.”
12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
BUT I’M A GOOD PERSON!
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Every idle word!
Without the grace of God - impossible!
Grace is Not Permission—It’s Power
Titus 2:11–12 — “For the grace of God has appeared… teaching us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions.”
Grace: the divine difference!
Grace is not permission to do wrong, it’s power to do right!
It’s a call to holiness!
Grace is the greatest transformers of all time!
God’s grace is not just about forgiveness, it’s a call to walk victorious!
Conclusion:
Live with eternity in mind.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,
23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,
24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Evangelism is urgent: judgment is not a myth—it’s a moment every person will face.
