Q13 Did Our First Parents Continue In Their Created State? A13 No. Left to choose freely, they ate the forbidden fruit and they fell, they sinned (Eccl. 7:29)

ENGAGEMENT (GOAL IS TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE GARDEN OF EDEN WAS HEAVEN ON EARTH)
Why do people even want to go to heaven? (ENGAGE ALL THE KIDDOS)
Do you want to go to heaven? Why?
What is/isn’t there?
Who is/isn’t there?
Did you know that once upon a time mankind enjoyed Paradise with God? When was that?
What changed? (LOOK FOR ANSWERS FROM THE KIDDOS THAT INVOLVE SIN, REBELLION)
Let’s Read from Scripture
Genesis 2:16–17 “And Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may surely eat; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat from it; for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die.””
Genesis 3:6–7 “Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, so she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate. And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.”
RECALL
Last week we looked at the good things that God gave our first parents (HAVE THE CHOMPs READ FROM Q12)
Q12 What was the providence of God toward man in the estate in which he was created? A12 When God had created man He entered into a covenant of life with him, upon condition of perfect obedience; forbidding him to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, upon pain of death (Ge 2:17)
People were made in His image, with dominion over all creation, good commandments to be fruitful and multiply and access to the Tree of Life, He gave him every green plant for food… Every need met, enjoying communion with his Creator. God’s only condition, the only law Adam had to obey, was not to eat of the knowledge of the tree of good and evil.
LESSON
So here is tonight’s question… Q13 Did Our First Parents Continue In Their Created State? A13 No, left to choose freely they ate the forbidden fruit and they fell, they sinned. Ecclesiastes 7:29 ““See, I have found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices.””
God gave people everything we needed and they, our parents, of their own free will fell from this state. They rebelled. They disobeyed the one restriction that God had placed on them and they fell from fellowship with God - they sinned. No longer could they enjoy paradise with their Maker. This is sooooo sad!
At the moment that they bit into the fruit, they died spiritually and their bodies began to die.
At the moment they took the fruit then Creation which they were entrusted also began to suffer (Romans 8.20-22)
Do you know what happened then?
Adam and Eve became scared - that had never happened before - they ran from God.
That is what sin does… it wrecks our relationship with God
We think that sin is a little thing and we are so wrong.

GOSPEL PRESENTATION
Can I tell you some good news? Romans 5:18–19 “So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were appointed sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be appointed righteous.”
SO WHAT? ASK WHY ANY OF THIS MATTERS AT ALL
We live in the aftermath of Adam and Eve’s choice… They chose to disobey God. We should trust God because
A) He tells us the truth - if He warns about danger we should believe Him and He does warn us in His Word of the dangers of sin.
B). We should obey God and avoid a broken relationship with Him and others
We should know that God loves us immeasurably - He has provided everything that we needed - even now He has not abandoned us He has supplied a Savior to redeem us from sin
