d. The communication to Moses (the place: Mount Horeb - The mountain of God - Mt. Sinai, the person was the angel of the Lord)
Today:
Exodus 3:1–6 KJV 1900
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. 3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. 4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

1. Inquiring at the Sight

Exodus 3:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. 2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
More of God’s building-blocks of growth for Moses:
Remember how God allowed Moses to see the affliction of his people, but is about to call him to go deliver his suffering people?
Now Moses is on a mountaintop and sees the LORD appear to him in flame of fire
Likely, later when Moses would see God in a pillar of fire leading them, he would’ve recognized it...
Or later when God descended upon Mt. Sinai to Moses in fire...
Or when God’s glory was as a “devouring fire” upon the mountain top...
**Interesting note: God never spoke to anyone out of fire other than Moses (or Children of Israel while Moses was there)
He spoke audibly to Samuel, but no fire...
He spoke audibly to John the Baptist and Jesus after Jesus’ baptism and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
God’s voice out of the cloud spoke at Jesus’ transfiguration and said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
He spoke audibly to Saul on the Road to Damascus saying, “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”
He spoke many times through angels...
But God only spoke out of a fire to Moses...
Exodus 3:1–3 KJV 1900
3 And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
Acts 7:30 KJV 1900
30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.
Just a shepherd boy on the backside of the desert, now seeing an angel of the Lord appear to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush...
“...I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.”
God will show Himself real to you… **If you’re looking for the right thing...
Will you turn aside and see the great sight?

2. Approach and Listen

God spoke once Moses approached
Exodus 3:4 KJV 1900
4 And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
Acts 7:31 KJV 1900
31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,
“...and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him...”
James 4:8 KJV 1900
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
If you do your part, God will do His to draw near to you...
Be faithful to serve and God will speak to you...
You can’t hear His voice because you’re so far away from Him...
The angel of the Lord didn’t speak until Moses drew near...
a. God spoke as Moses worked
God calls people who are busy doing what they already know to do...
He called Gideon while he was threshing grain
He called David while he was caring for sheep
He called Samuel while serving in the tabernacle
He called Elisha while plowing in the field
He called four of the apostles while they were fishing
He called Matthew while he was collecting taxes
But God will not call us while we are being lazy...
Proverbs 10:4–5 KJV 1900
4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: But the hand of the diligent maketh rich. 5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
2 Thessalonians 3:10–12 KJV 1900
10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
One of the Bible words for “laziness” is “Slothful”: inactive, sluggish, lazy, idle
Proverbs 18:9 KJV 1900
9 He also that is slothful in his work Is brother to him that is a great waster.
God hates laziness and He will not speak nor call to you if you’re not simply doing what you know to do...

3. Reverencing God’s Voice

Exodus 3:5–6 KJV 1900
5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Acts 7:32–33 KJV 1900
32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. 33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.
Moses gave his obedience to God...
One of the best things that can be said as a Christian is obedience...
Interesting quote:
4874 When God makes his presence felt through us, we are like the burning bush; Moses never took any heed what sort of bush it was—he only saw the brightness of the Lord.
