Big Idea:

In a divided world, we are called to live with a Kingdom-first perspective—following Jesus above all and reflecting His love and truth in how we respond to political tension.

🧩 Game: “Bridge the Gap”

Goal: Use provided materials to build a “bridge” between two chairs that can support the weight of a small object—all within one minute.

You’ll Need (per team):

2 chairs, spaced 12–18 inches apart
10–15 plastic straws or popsicle sticks
2 feet of masking tape
1 small object to test the bridge (ping pong ball, eraser, etc.)
Stopwatch or timer

How to Play:

Divide into teams of 2–4 people.
Give each team their materials and explain the goal:“You must build a bridge between the two chairs that supports the object… in 60 seconds!”
When time starts, teams can use only the given supplies (no floor contact allowed).
After 1 minute, test each team’s bridge by placing the object on top.
The most successful (or creative) structure wins!

Spiritual Tie-In Transition:

“Some of you tried to just tape things quickly… others planned first… but you all felt the pressure of time and the challenge of building something strong out of basic pieces. In life, especially when it comes to things like politics and social issues, people often build walls instead of bridges. But as followers of Jesus, we’re called to be bridge builders—not gap wideners. Let’s look at how we can do that.”

Objective:

To help teens process the political and cultural tensions of our global society through the lens of the Gospel and the Kingdom of God, and equip them to respond with grace, wisdom, and truth.

Lesson Outline

1. Icebreaker (5-7 min)

Game: “Choose Your Side”
Read out polarizing—but silly—statements (e.g., “Pineapple belongs on pizza” vs “It’s a crime”). Have students move to one side of the room depending on what they choose.
Then say:
“Funny, right? But what if it was political issues? Things get serious real fast. Why do you think that is?”

2. Real Talk: Our World is Divided (5 min)

Say:
“Scroll your phone. Watch the news. Talk to people. Our world is full of conflict—politics, protests, global wars, and social issues. And it can feel overwhelming. As Christians, how do we know what to think or how to act? More importantly—how do we stay true to Jesus when everything around us is pulling us in different directions?”

3. Scripture Foundation (10-12 min)

Read John 18:36
John 18:36 KJV 1900
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Ask:
What do you think Jesus meant when He said His Kingdom is not of this world?
How should that affect how we view political power and cultural tension?
Also Read Matthew 5:9
Matthew 5:9 KJV 1900
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Point:
Jesus didn’t come to start a political revolution—He came to establish a spiritual Kingdom that changes lives from the inside out. Our identity is not rooted in a political party, nation, or ideology—it’s rooted in Him.

4. Group Discussion (10-15 min)

Break into small groups or lead open discussion with the following:
Questions:
Have you ever felt pressure to pick a side in a political or cultural issue?
Is it possible to care about justice and truth without being hateful or divisive?
What do you think it means to be a peacemaker in today’s world?
Challenge Thought:
What would it look like for you to represent Jesus first on social media, at school, or at home—even when you disagree with people?

5. Kingdom Mindset Principles (5 min)

Give students practical filters they can use when navigating tension:
Gospel Truth
What It Looks Like in Real Life
I belong to God’s Kingdom first
I don’t blindly follow political trends. I follow Jesus.
I’m called to love my enemies
I don’t dehumanize people I disagree with.
I’m an ambassador of Christ
I represent hope, not hate. Peace, not pride.
Truth matters, but so does tone
I don’t shout louder. I live wiser.

6. Application Challenge (5 min)

Say:
This week, take one of these steps:
Listen First – Have a conversation with someone who sees things differently than you. Don’t argue. Just listen.
Speak Life Online – Post something that reflects the heart of Jesus—encouragement, truth, or compassion.
Pray for the World – Choose one global issue or country and commit to praying for God’s Kingdom to come there.

7. Prayer and Closing (3-5 min)

Lead a prayer for:
Wisdom in confusing times
Courage to stand for truth with love
Unity in the body of Christ
Peace and healing for our divided world

Memory Verse

Romans 12:2 KJV 1900
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Optional Add-ons

Video: Show a clip from a movie where two sides are at war, but one character takes a higher path (e.g., Black Panther, Star Wars).
Testimony Time: Invite a young adult who’s navigated political tension while keeping a Kingdom mindset to share their story.
