Rest and War

To start out we are going to be in Mark starting in chapter 1

But before we get there

My name is nick if we haven’t met yet

I am filling in for Jason today he had foot surgery

but we are still going through the book Rest and War

by ben stuert

we are on chapter 12

The first scripture he uses is Psalm 23

Psalm 23

Lie down in green pastures

sometimes we fill out lives with stuff that dont matter and God makes us sometimes lie down and listen to him and talk to him

sometimes we purse things of this world more than we pursue God and hevenly things

we chase Likes

we get caught up doing so much we forget to rest and be with God

we Go Go Go Go until we can’t anymore

and then God makes us lie down in green pastures he makes us rest

Ben told a story about his wife's phone being robbed while out of the country

he was Go Go Go Go until he broke

Doc told him he couldn’t do anything for two months

Rest is important

We also see that in the story of Jonah

He fills his life with things to drown out God

He runs from God until God makes him stop and think

And if were not careful God may make us stop and find time to rest

Mark 1:35 

Jesus takes time during busy hours to spend time with the Lord and rest in his presence 

this is in the middle of his busy ministry

the start of it

but he finds a place to pray

not just any place but a deserted place

away from people

and very early

wasn’t convenient

it took some planning and some dedication

He took time to rest

Mark 3:14-15 

Jesus first tells them to be with him

he doesnt want them to do anything first

Just stop and watch Jesus and learn that stuff

then he sends them out

They had a moment of rest with Jesus to know their true calling

Mark 6:31 

Jesus tells the apostles to rest

right after traveling and feeding 5K

A busy time in ministry

they were called to rest

After God created literlly everything what did he do

Rested

God wants us to rest don’t think he doesn’t

Health experts drinking when thirsty means to late same with rest

If you don’t prioritize a redemptive release, the enemy will always be there to offer a destructive one

talk about the dart board story

middle sin you struggle with

middle rim stuff that makes you fall into that sin

outer things that you can do for fun that don’t trigger that sin

What brings you joy? What makes you laugh? What makes your eyes light up? What do you look forward to?

what is something you can do for fun that doesn’t make you feel guilty afterward

or doesn’t make you stumble into sin

think of a list as you go about your day today and this week

Deuteronomy 16 11 through 15

Even in the old test people were called to rest

to enjoy things he’s given us

he calls them to enjoy a festival with everyone even the levits

Your body will get the time off. It needs either will be in a healthy rhythm of rest or in a hospital facility.

either by choice or by your body making you from pain

Find something that you genuinely enjoy that you can use as a rest a time apart from your workday

The word provided us with things we enjoy for a reason
