What can you do to earn salvation? - nothing

Because we’re sinners, what do we deserve? - to be forever away from God in hell

Our song reminds “I believe, I need forgiveness; I believe, I need His _________.” - grace

Introduction: Last night, friends, we understood from God’s Word that there’s nothing that we can do to make us worthy of salvation - you can’t earn it.

Instead, God gives salvation to all who believe - it’s His grace!

Tonight, we’re going to seek to understand what it means to believe.

To believe means that we confidently accept something as true and it changes the way that we live.

But, friends, what is it that we need to believe to be forgiven of our sins and live forever with Jesus?

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”

Friends, we must believe that Jesus Christ, our perfect Creator, died on the cross because we’re sinners who need forgiveness - only His death on the cross can make it possible for God to forgive us!

We need to believe that, though Jesus died and was buried, He’s now alive and will never die again!

Friends, God’s true Word shares with us about these things that Jesus did - they actually happened!

Conclusion: Friends, tomorrow night, we’re going to talk about what Jesus’ permanent life means for us now!
