Gomer the Harlot

We saw the play of Hosea and Gomer
Gomer was going to be a harlot and Hosea knew it
they had 2 children
to scatter
no compassion, not my people
Hosea is playing the character of God
Gomer is playing the character of the nation Israel
Gomer is a harlot going after other lovers who give her the things that she craves
the people of Israel go after other gods who they think the other Gods are giving the things it craves
Hosea 2 1-2
do your best to keep your mother home where she belongs
don’t go after your lovers, or you will end up getting what you deserve
V 3-5
she is doing exactly what she wants
she has left her first love
she has gone after other lovers thinking they are more exiting
thinking they are giving her the luxury she craves
V 8
little does she know that it was Yahweh who was giving her all these good things
this is the depth of love that God has for her
here she was going after other Gods for her good things but it was actually God who was giving them to her
Gomer finds herself with a lover who is poor and cannot provide for her
but the love Hosea has for her goes out an buys all of the luxury items an gives them to her man lover to give to her and then take all the credit for
Ephesians 3:17–19 LSB
so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being firmly rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
this love that God has for us we have no clue how big it is
Jesus allowed himself to be nailed to a cross by our sin
He took our sin upon himself
when we were going to our other lovers God supplied to us good things
when we ran as fast as we could away from him, He met us there
V 9 - 13
now God to the people of Israel He will start to draw the noose tighter
hem her in on all sides
bring her in to a point that she can only look up
the same way God to some of us brought to Himself
V 14 I will bring her to the wilderness
convict her
In Acts Peter is preaching to the people and
Acts 2:37 LSB
Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men, brothers, what should we do?”
Paul was preaching in thyatira when a woman named Lydia
Acts 16:14 LSB
And a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening, whose heart the Lord opened to pay attention to the things spoken by Paul.
God is not only going to bring Israel back as a nation
but He will speak to their heart
he will bring them to the wilderness
remember the 1/3 that will live through the great tribulation
the 1/3 that is spoken of by Zechariah
some of those 1/3 I believe will be the ones who escaped when the abomination of desolation took place
Matthew 24:15–21 LSB
“Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. “Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. “And whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his garment. “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! “But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.
God will bring all these people to the wilderness and speak to their heart
John 6:44–45 LSB
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. “It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.

THEN

V 15-16
called husband not Baal
V 17-18
the new covenant
Jeremiah 31:31–34 LSB
“Behold, days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will cut a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I cut with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, but I was a husband to them,” declares Yahweh. “But this is the covenant which I will cut with the house of Israel after those days,” declares Yahweh: “I will put My law within them, and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. “And they will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know Yahweh,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares Yahweh, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
The Jews in the tribulation will be saved the same way we are saved
through repentance and faith
the same way Abraham was saved
Then
V 19-20
speaking to Israel the nation not to individuals
Speaking of the Israelites who will be alive at the return of their Messiah
V 21-23
all this for God’s glory
all of this by God’s grace
all of this because of the love God has for His people
Read Romans 11 25-
God will have compassion
Now they are My people
now they will say My God
not my Baal
