Today we begin our series called: “How Shall We Persevere?”
1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:
2 May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.
If You Are Called?
If You Are Called?
Not all are called - Romans 8:30
30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:
We should take notice that this is a communication with Christians.
We should take note that the is an exclusivity of this letter.
In essence, the letter has a recipient, a purpose, a focus, and an encouraged response.
7 To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Notice the repetition — “those called”
Not everyone is called.
But to the ones who are called...
Your Debt Has Been Paid/Purchased!
Your Debt Has Been Paid/Purchased!
1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ...”
Maybe we look at these six words and we question how one might arrive at the conclusion of one being paid for...
In Greek there are 4 words Jude—Jesus Christ—Slave
The last of the four words describe Jude. Jude and slave are both nominative and Jesus Christ is written in genitive. Essentially meaning we should add the word of...Jude a slave of Jesus Christ.
So he is one under a submitted and purchase role.
4 For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you,
Let’s be mindful of the fact that He chose to purchase those He called.
Let’s also cling to the fact that His “brother” here is His half brother and that His brothers did not believe Him at first. Here His brother claims James, but not Jesus as a Brother...He claims Him as Lord/Master/Owner of his soul.
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
5 For not even his brothers believed in him.
It was the work of Christ that got Jude/Judas to this point and therefore a further acknowledgement of his dependance on the work external of himself.
You Are Kept!
You Are Kept!
Meaning He sustains, holds, and upholds—also that we are set apart to/for
1 Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:
11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.
Secure them—Jesus prays
15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
Protect them as you keep them
23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hold them clean.
25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
You Are A Recipient:
You Are A Recipient:
Mercy - Not receiving what we deserve… Might we think of the good Samaritan.
23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—
Peace - just as Gideon reminded us in Judges 6, “God is Peace,” and in Philippians we are reminded that of his peace—it is beyond understanding...We should hold to recognizing the description given by the prophet Isaiah referring to our Lord:
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Love - because it is given of Him and by Him:
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Be Grateful
For the non-believer:
Hear His Call
Heed His Call
