Do You Know the Way?

John 14:1–6 NKJV
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

We are on a Life Journey

Going on a journey requires a starting point, a destination, and clear direction in how to get to the destination. In the old days, people followed paths and roads with markers prepared by those who had gone before. Then there were personal directions asked and given. Then there were fold out state maps. Then there were books of maps. Now there is GPS.
Our life journey began with birth
Our life journey will end in death
There are two gates, two paths, and two destinations
Matthew 7:13–14 NKJV
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
The narrow gate and the wide gate
The narrow way and the broad way
The destination of eternal life and the destination of eternal death

Let not your heart be troubled

We will experience troubles along life’s journey
John 16:33 NKJV
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
We are not to let our hearts be troubled
You believe in God
Believe also in Jesus Christ.
He wants to be your Lord and Savior
He wants to be your Shepherd in this life journey

The Destination: The Father’s House

His Father’s house has many mansions (i.e., dwelling places, rooms)
Jesus went to prepare a place for us in His Father’s house
This is the imagery of betrothal. Once betrothed, the bridegroom would return to his Father’s house and inheritance to prepare a place for his bride. Then he would return to get her and bring her there.
Jesus will come again.
To receive us unto Himself
That where He is, we may be also!
He wants us, His bride, with Him!

The Way: Jesus Christ

Many are trying to find their own way to God
Proverbs 14:12 NKJV
There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.6-
Isaiah 55:6–9 NKJV
Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Jesus is the Way. The Way is a PERSON. He is the ONLY WAY to the Father.
Jesus knows the way to His Father’s house.
Jesus leads the way to His Father’s house. He is our Shepherd. Follow the Shepherd.
Jesus is the Truth: Truth is not a theory, it is a PERSON.
Jesus is the Life: Life is a connection to a PERSON, Jesus Christ, the Source of Life.

Response to the Word

Don’t let your heart be troubled.
Believe in Jesus Christ.
The only way to find the way to eternal life is through Him.
Follow Jesus Christ as your Shepherd.
He will lead you in this life.
He will return to receive you to Himself and bring you to His Father’s house.
Psalm 23:6 NKJV
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
