Isaiah 10:20-27
Isaiah 10:20-27
20 And it shall come to pass in that day, That the remnant of Israel, And such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, Shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; But shall stay upon the Lord, The Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, Unto the mighty God.
22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, Yet a remnant of them shall return: The consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23 For the Lord God of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, In the midst of all the land.
24 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, Be not afraid of the Assyrian: He shall smite thee with a rod, And shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
25 For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, And mine anger in their destruction.
26 And the Lord of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him According to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: And as his rod was upon the sea, So shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
27 And it shall come to pass in that day, That his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, And his yoke from off thy neck, And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
In this passage, we see Isaiah sharing a tremendous promise from God to the Israelites. We see that the remnant of believers at this time would survive the ferocious onslaught by the Assyrians. The Assyrians represent God’s instrument of divine judgment and punishment against a disobedient, rebellious, and idolatrous Israel. They are disobedience and idolatry that stem from the repeated lack of trust in God and the adverse practices of pagan worship. Examples of their idolatrous worship include the Golden Calf, worship of Baal, Asherah, and Moloch. God’s judgment of the Israelites allowed the Assyrians to conquer Israel and deport the northern kingdom of Israel throughout the Assyrian empire.
Reveal God’s judgment through the Assyrians against the Israelites:
Reveal God’s judgment through the Assyrians against the Israelites:
Isaiah 10:5 “O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, And the staff in their hand is mine indignation.” This verse clearly states God’s direct use of the Assyrians as a “Rod” or instrument for His anger & indignation against His rebellious people.
2 Kings 17:5-6, “Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years. In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.” This describes the fulfillment of that judgment!
Overwhelming & Cruel Nature of the Assyrians
Overwhelming & Cruel Nature of the Assyrians
The Assyrian military tactics were brutal, and their overwhelming forces specialized in dividing the Israelites' conquered forces to break their spirits. We see the same tactics used by the enemy today. We see spiritual attacks involving physical strongholds that the enemy uses to siege against the faith and strength of believers relentlessly. The relentless attacks and tried-and-true tactics by the enemy to divide nations, to divide houses, to divide churches, to divide familes, and ultimately divide the faith of believers. Let me say that again, to divide the faith of believers! This division brings a spirit of discouragement, anxiety, and defeat that permeates believers and further festers existing wounds.
The famous Chinese general Sun Tzu would call this “Death by a thousand cuts!” Ephesians 6:16 “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” The enemy may attempt to cut you by a 1000 cuts, but my God says our shield of faith will quench all the fiery darts of the wicked! The enemy employs overwhelming attacks, division, and sustained sieges against the believer to weaken and drain them, thus allowing a spirit of discouragement to bring seven of his friends, leaving you feeling defeated. Leaving you believing you are conquered! We are not slaves to the enemy. We do not have to yoke ourselves to broken and dead things of this world, when in us is life! Life given to us by our Everlasting Father!
Look at the purpose of a yoke! A yoke is an instrument that binds two things together! The oppression of Satan is real. The opposition of the devil is real. With the attacks of the devil and his demonic forces, once a yoke is established, a binding is present. Yokes of sickness; Yokes of disease; Yokes of addiction; Yokes of fear; Yokes of depression; Yokes of anxiety. Yokes of lust and perversion, and Yokes of poverty, cannot be broken without the power and presence of God. The power and presence that only comes from the anointed presence of the Holy Spirit!
Insert Scripture on Yoke and Burden!
Many are tied to a yoke and never realize it. Many have tried to defeat personal yokes leading to strongholds and fail every time. Like a chain or leash, the demonic oppression of the enemy yanks the yoke and the vicious cycle returns.
The Anointing Breaks the enemy's yoke
The Anointing Breaks the enemy's yoke
Isaiah 10:27 “And it shall come to pass in that day, That his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, And his yoke from off thy neck, And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
We see two things immediately from this passage:
#1 The burden and yoke of the enemy are real. We see that the burden on our shoulders can weigh us down. The yoke captivating you, keeping you bound, is real. The power of the enemy is real, and evil has a real effect on us.
#2 The yoke of the enemy can be destroyed! See while many people are bound, being held in captivity, being held in bondage, being held in slavery because of the oppression of the enemy, 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” walks around seeking whom he can devour.
While Satan and his demonic forces are unseen and invisible, the effects of their presence and oppression are visible > The Word says that we have a comforter. The Word says that the anointing breaks the yoke of the enemy. The burdens are real. The yoke is real. Captivity is real. Spiritual slavery is real. Oppression is real. BUT the power and presence and promise of God can save you > deliver you > heal you > restore you
The yoke of the enemy, Satan’s bindings > Satan’s power > bondage > depression > the captivity of the enemy will be destroyed by the anointing!
Regardless of the effects of addiction > God can heal you!
Regardless of the years of bondage > My God can deliver you!
Regardless of the lies, and unbeleif sown by the father of lies and the very first murderer > My God is a God of Spirit and Truth.
Regardless of lusts and perversions, sickness, disease, overwhelming debt > The Holy Spirit will set you free! 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
Freedom! When the anointing presence of God > burdens are lifted
Freedom! With the anointing presence of God > the enemy's yokes are destroyed! Matthew 11:30 “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Defeating the enemy
Defeating the enemy
Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
1 John 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
Matthew 12:28 “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.”

Luke 10:17–20 “And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”
We walk in the power and boldness of the Holy Spirit. We are given authority by the name of Jesus Christ over serpents and scorpions. All the lies, oppression, and attacks cannot hurt us. We give power to the enemy to hurt us. The lies people say are born from evil, but where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. That means as we walk in the presence of the Holy Spirit > we are untouchable > we are no longer victims, but victors as a child of God.
Colossians 1:13–14 “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness [Satan], and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”
We are delivered from darkness into light! By the blood of Jesus, we are redeemed!
Colossians 2:15 “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
Our Lord and Savior, conquered the spiritual wickedness in high places. Jesus spoiled the principalities and power, making an open show of the victory from our Prince of Peace.
1 Peter 2:24 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
1 John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
