Scripture Reading (“Please stand…”)
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Until He Comes
Until He Comes
(Timer: ___ minutes left)
(Usually between 8:15 and 12:30 to get to 1st point)
“I am coming soon”
“And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.
Rev. 22:20 -
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
“Surely I am coming soon.”
Which then leads to the closing prayer of the Bible, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
“you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes”
Only hold fast what you have until I come.
“hold fast”
Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.

Genesis 1 and 2… Garden of Eden
The river and the Tree of Life
Now in Revelation 22....
we see those again.
River of Life
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Genesis 2
The rivers
Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar.
Tree of Life
And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”
through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
In Rev. 20, we see Satan, the ancient serpent, the deceiver… conquered.
“will soon” - Rom 16:20
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

“New”
Rev. 21:1, 2, 5
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
New Heavens/New Earth
New Jerusalem
All Things New
In the pattern of the resurrection,
“new” doesn’t mean destroy the old and start completely over.
“new” means “restored” or “purified”
So for the new heavens and the new earth...
“new” is a restored or purified creation.
It’s also the implication of the Jesus coming in flesh into the world.
Did he come so that he can take out our of the world to heaven forever?
His flesh and bone incarnation shows the value of creation.
George Ladd writes,
“If Christ came from heaven to bring men eternal life, this life does not consist of flight from the world to escape to heaven; it is a life experienced on earth in history that will finally issue in the resurrection.” (George Ladd)
That’s why the Scriptures talk about the resurrection of the body at the return of Jesus.
No more curse
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
- “no more death, mourning, crying, pain...”
But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
- “nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does the detestable”
Rev. 22:3 - “No longer will there be anything accursed”
No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.
Land
A place to dwell on the earth
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God,
Temple...
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.
“The temple is the Lord...”
Seed
Your offspring...
Notice in Rev. 21 and 22...
The city is called the bride
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
But I thought the people were the Bride
Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.
For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is his name; and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer, the God of the whole earth he is called.
For the Lord has called you like a wife deserted and grieved in spirit, like a wife of youth when she is cast off, says your God. For a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you.
In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the Lord, your Redeemer.
And the entire book of Hosea
God pursuing an unfaithful wife.
There is a tie between the city and the people.
The dwelling place of God is the place in which his people reside.
That’s why we are called the temple of the
Blessing
I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.
They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.
“the nations walk”
“the glory and the honor of the nations”
And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.
Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and exult, because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, the wealth of the nations shall come to you.
The True People of God
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.
Rev. 22:15 - “Outside are the dogs and those who love falsehood”
Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
Only those whose name is in the Lamb’s Book of Life
But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Rev. 22.17 - “Come...”
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
The Welcome of the Gospel
An invitation from God
Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates.
Blessed are those who wash their robes
Rev. 7:14 - “washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb”
I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
The water of life without price
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.

“Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me”
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave
my hope is only Jesus
