Matthew 28:18–20 ESV

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

This is the most crucial command that we were given by Christ. The directions in this passage of Scripture is the obligation that is given to us by Christ himself to go out into the world and make disciples.

YOU ARE OBLIGATED TO GIVE THE

A Great Commission worshipper is a person who is so much in love with Jesus, so committed to worship of Jesus, and so devoted to being obedient to every command of Jesus that he simply cannot restrain himself from telling others about his incredible relationship with the Son of God. A Great Commission Worshipper is equally committed to worship and evangelism. There is never a time when a division is made between the two. This concept of worship-evangelism is the biblical model for discipleship.

Breaking these verses down, we understand that the process of discipling others comes in different stages.

Understanding the authority of Christ is the fundamental principle of the whole process. Not only that but it is a reminder that His authority and power surpasses all other authority of the world.

YOU CAN’T DISCIPLE IF YOU DON’T KNOW CHRIST

It’s so much more than saying hey you should come to youth group because it’s fun. It’s bringing people to an understanding of who you have encountered and what you have witnessed and inviting others to be in relationship with Him.

THE GREAT COMMISSION WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE PRIVATE

Matthew 28:19 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,

DISCIPLE-μαθητεύω-mathētĕuō, math-ayt-yoo´-o-someone who learns, pupil

In order to make disciples, you are to be an ambassador. They look to you as an example of Christ.

TO MAKE DISCIPLES, YOU HAVE TO MODEL IT

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Baptism is the symbol of transformation that is taking place inwardly. When we call people to baptism, we are calling them to make a public testimony of their faith, this does not mean that saves us.

BAPTISM IS A SIGN OF SALVATION-NOT THE SOURCE OF IT

Ephesians 2:8–9 ESV

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Matthew 28:20 ESV

teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

IN ORDER TO TEACH, YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED

2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

This may be overwhelming, but Jesus gives us this promise.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

WHERE WE GO, JESUS GOES

The Great Commission is not a suggestion. It’s not optional.
