Humility of Jairus

He was a synagogue leader. He should have been the first person to be calling Jesus out and hating him.

But when he realized his actual need he humbled himself in front of many people and asked for help.

The Greek word “healed” also means “saved” and Mark intentionally uses that term. Jesus will save out if we only reach out to Him.

We can suffer for years but if we don’t do something ourselves and reach out to Jesus, we will keep suffering.

“Power went out” - there is a cost to what Jesus does for us. In this case it’s physical effort. That’s a really interesting one to unpack with Jesus being fully man and also fully God. We know Jesus got tired and weary and we also know that was working through God’s infinite unending power.

There is a cost to our own salvation. Jesus paid for our sins with His own life. Our sins are what nailed Him to the cross. Our deserved separation from God is what Jesus went through for our sake.

We also see Jesus’ complete power over healing.

He is not only making her physically well but He is restoring her to be able to participate in community and religious events.

She has been ceremonially unclean for the last 12 years and unable to do any religious activities.

Raising Jairus’s Daughter

There’s a distinct comparison between the chaotic mourning and wailing of the people and Jesus’ calmness.

He is further showing His power as God over life and death.
