1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58; Matthew 25:1-13
Matthew 25:1–13 ESV
“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

INTRODUCTION (20 Min)

A. WHAT IS THE RAPTURE?
The word rapture comes from the Latin word [rapere - to steal or snatch], translating the greek word harpazō meaning “to seize suddenly, to snatch away.”
1 Thessalonians 4:17 “Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”
2. It refers to the moment when Jesus will return In the air to gather HIS church - not to judge the earth yet, but to remove HIS people before the wrath to come.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”
B. Will the rapture happen before, during or after the tribulation.
Pre-Tribulation - Jesus will steal his church away before the coming of the tribulation.
Mid-Tribulation - Jesus will come at the half-way mark (3.5) before the worst part of the tribulation; known as the great tribulation.
Post-Tribulation - Jesus will come after the church has endured the tribulation and christians have endured through the worst.
Why would the groom allow his bride to be ravaged before rescuing her?
What does it matter? We must always live ready and maintain our faith that Jesus is Lord and that he could come when we least expect it.
B. What makes the rapture distinct?
It is different from the Second coming - where Jesus Christ returns to the earth to rule. Rev 19
The rapture is Christ coming for His Church; the Second Coming is Christ returning With His Church.
C. Why does the rapture matter?
It is the next major event on God’s prophetic calendar.
It is a purifying hope for the believer.
1 John 3:3 “And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
3. It will be Sudden, selective, and final - there’s no time to get ready once it starts.
You can’t hit the snooze button on the rapture. You’re either ready or you are not.

FIVE SIGNS YOU ARE RAPTURE READY (20Min)

I. You have a living relationship with Jesus Christ.

John 10:27 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

A. Salvation is not about church attendance - it’s about knowing Jesus.

You are not rapture ready because you are religous.
You must be born again.

B. Readiness starts with repentance and surrender.

You’ve confessed Jesus as Lord, not just Savior.
Your life has been changed by grace, not just behavior.
Do you know Him - or do you just know about Him?

II. You walk in holiness and obedience.

1 Peter 1:16 “since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.””
1 John 3:3 “And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.”
Holiness is the practice of keeping yourself and your heart pure for God.
Obedience is the discipline of following what God says to do.

A. The rapture is for a bride without spot or wrinkle. (the virgins)

Ephesians 5:27 “so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.”
Grace doesn’t excuse sin - it empowers obedience.
Readiness looks like daily repentance. and Active pursuit of righteousness.
Repentance is a change of heart that leads to a change of direction.

B. Holiness is not perfection - it is separation and devotion.

You are not playing with sin - you are actively putting it to death.
Your conscience is tender, not hardened.
Are you actively resisting sin or silently tolerating it?

III. You Are filled with the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 25:4 “but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.”
Romans 8:14 “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

A. The parable of the ten virgins: only those with oil went in.

Oil = presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
The foolish had lamps (religion) but no oil (relationship/power).
you can have religion, but religion without the Holy Spirit is dead.

B. Readiness means walking in the Spirit, not the flesh.

Being Spirit - filled is not a one time event, but a daily lifestyle.
The Holy Spirit empowers obedience, boldness, and discernment.
Is your lamp full - or are you running on empty?

IV. You live with eternal urgency

Titus 2:13 “waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,”
Luke 12:40 “You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.””

A. You are watching and working for His return.

Your time, treasure, and talents are invested in eternity. >you are actively investing in the kingdom mission. Giving to the mission, Serving in the work of the Lord, Offering your gifts as a service to the kingdom.
You’re not attached to this world - you’re longing for His Kingdom. - Homesick

B. You are awake spiritually, not asleep.

You’re not spiritually lazy, distracted or numb.
This is life is temporary. We are simply passing through. Our calling is to the eternal.
Are you living for the moment - or for the Master?

V. You are actively sharing the gospel. (optional depending on time.)

Matthew 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
2 Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
Evangelism is not a event that happens at your local church. Its a daily practice of spreading good news.

A. Ready people are responsible people.

They warn others and
They witness boldly.

B. You can’t say you are ready if you don’t care who gets left behind.

The rapture should stir Compassion, not just curiosity.
Evangelism is an overflow of eternal urgency.
Who have you warned lately? Who are you praying to rescue before the door shuts?
CONCLUSION
The question isn’t when the rapture will happen.
The question is will you be ready when it does?
FIVE TESTS
Do I truly know Jesus?
Am I walking in Holiness?
Is my lamp full of oil?
Am I living with urgency?
Am I warning others?
Matthew 25:10 “And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.”
When the rapture happens, it will be too late to prepare.
