Light - Salvation and a stronghold
Light - Salvation and a stronghold
The context in which david was saying this is very important to understand. He was coming out of being chased down and basically hunted by Saul. So He was kind of almost saying it to encourage and maybe hype himself up. What looks like this awesome faith and statement is david repeating it and saying with confidence and a reminder to himself. So it sounds or looks good but the context or the back story mattersl.
Let me show you this picture of me in a underground cave and water fall in Belize in 2012 this was the picture i posted on facebook. But let me give you some context to that story. (picture one )
Tell the story show the big fricken Igauna - the bats the jump of the ledge into not just murky and to some place warm water but pitch black. I was in the dark in the water in a place I did not want to be but dang dont I look so adventures, sure and confident in that picture!?
But after david had been through this season what had he learned about the Lord? See thats the beauty of a hard season with the Lord we buckle in Chaos but not God man God runs to chaos and says “peace be still” he hands us a head light and a life jacket and says if you follow me I will show you a way out David knew due to the darkness that he had walked out of that The Lord is my light!
How do you guys feel about the dark? I am not a fan I jumped up into my bed, my brother would scare me I collected glow worms ( pic of glow worm) I always had a night light always wanted the all light on. And man as soon as that light hit the room and lit up the darkness my whole body breathed deeper thats the kind of light God brings where light be darkness must flee.
A stronghold

In general, whatever materials were available were used for construction of fortifications, including old debris, rubble, and beaten earth. Those materials were faced with hard-packed clay or lime plaster to prevent an enemy from knowing the quality of the underlying filling. Commonly a
Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible Fort, Fortification
Commonly a ditch or moat was dug or cut out of solid rock in front of the walls. This hindered an enemy’s advance, and made any attempt to tunnel under the walls and into the city more difficult.
2 Sam 22:2–3He said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.
Ps 18:1–2I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Ps 31:2–3Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily! Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me! For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and hguide me;
David said that God was he salvation have you ever had your life saved by someone? Mr.Morris 7th grade saved my life at least I thought he would but Mary Andersen actually saved my life she had no reason to keep me out of that trash can but she did.(pic of me in 7th grade) David was talking about a God who historically for his people had saved them from thier enemies delivered them from slavery there was no jesus yet no Mary Andersen to step in and sacrifice it one and for all for us,
Did you make a fort as a kid? ever had a place you went that you just felt safe. We had a tornado shelter as a kid I would hide in when the sirens went off or to stay safe from my brother. David was basically comparing God to that shelter that if we run into it into God then we are saved and everyone else we bring in is too, which brings me to you and I? Would you not give a flashlight, would you not bring someone to somone who you knew could save them in every way? would you not grab them and show them the shelter that will alwasy ptrotect them always cover them and always be there?
This place is a lot like a fortress is a place you go to find peace, to have people who cover you and care a place to prptect you when life hits hard or gets upside down,Can you imagine me seeing a tornado hit and knowing I could invite others into that shelter and just shutting the door and saying nahhhhh dude your good good luck.
In a couppe weeks you have a chance to invite peopple into that light that salvation that strong hold and refuge I wouldnt be here today without that inviatation over and over again.
Dont make it difficult just lead them in you dont have to rizzy or whatever that dsnce is just walk slip get muddy but take them there. Its not complicated ( pic 4 in all jons gear)use the corn, use the bobber let it be awkward but give them the opportunity to join you bring them get them here you dont have to be the ultimate example just get them here God will do the rest but someone can go or cant know aobut something you don’t invite them too
