A. Esther Chapter 8
A. Esther Chapter 8
King Xerxes gives the house of Haman to Queen Esther.
Mordecai comes before the king because Queen Esther has disclosed her relationship to Mordecai (adoptive father)
The King takes the ring off of Haman and gives it to Mordecai
Queen Esther sets Mordecai over the house of Haman
The Queen falls at the feet of the King and implores him to stop the evil scheme of Haman
The king extended the Gold scepter to her, so she arose and stood before him.
The Queen asks the king that another edict be drafted to revoke the letters of Haman.
The King’s response:
I’ve given the house of Haman to Esther and hanged Haman on the gallows
Write to the Jews as you see fit in my name and use the seal
Why? Because a decree written in the King’s name, with the King’s seal cannot be revoked
They call the king’s scribes
And they do write a decree
The King grants the Jews in each and every city the right to assemble and defend their lives, to destroy, to kill and to annihilate the entire army of any people or province who might attack them including women and children and to plunder their spoil — on ONE day; the 13th day of Adar.
The edict goes out and couriers take it into the provinces and published to the peoples so the Jews would be ready.
Mordecai:
Goes out of the king’s presence dressed in royal robes of blue and white
a large golden crown
and a garment of linen and purple
The city of Susa rejoices at this
For the Jews there was light and gladness and joy and honor
And the Jews celebrated with joy and gladness and a feast and a holiday.
Many people of the land of Jews became Jews for the dread of them had fallen upon them.

Adar arrives and on the 13th day a province wide reversal of the events contained within the Mordecai vs. Haman plot unfold — humongous LOOP
People who try to kill someone ends up getting themselves killed.
“On the day when the enemies of the Jews hoped to gai nthe mastery over them, it was turned to the contrary so that the Jews themselves gained the master over those who hated them.”
No one could stand before them, dread had fallen upon the people.
The Dread of Mordecai even falls upon the princes and satraps and governors so that they help the Jews
It’s like the Return of the King LOL
First its just Gondor, then Rohan comes to their aid.
Mordecai’s fame spreads further and further and he is great in the King’s house
In Susa the Jews kill 500 men
The ten sons of haman — but they did not lay their hands on the plunder.
The Queen wants blood:
The king asks what Esther’s petition is and she wants a repeat
She wants the Jews to be able to defend themselves and she wants Haman’s sons hanged on the gallows
All told, the Jews will kill 75,000 people.
The Jews celebrate with a feast
Mordecai records the events and sends them to all the Jews in the provinces of the king
Purim is established

“Jesus is the true and greater Esther. He did not remain silent or dispassionate when the world was under the just condemnation of God (John 3:16-17). He came to save sinners. In the providence of God, He laid down His life and perished according to plan, but He experienced a third-day deliverance. Because of His courage and actions, He made atonement once for all, foiling the plots of His foes and vindicating His name through resurrection.”
“Mordecai as a type of Christ. Though the enemies of Jesus sought his destruction, their plans against him led to the highest status of honor for him, for God has given Jesus the name that is above every name (Phil. 2:9-11). While Mordecai was donned with royal garments, Jesus is the true King of kings who has all authority in heaven and earth (Matt.28:18). When the Roman soldiers mocked Jesus with purple robes and a crown of thorns, these actions were communicating the deeper truth of his identity (Mark 15:16-20). Just as the book of Esther ended with the greatness of Mordecai, who ‘sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people’ (Esther 10:3), the earthly ministry of Christ ends with His vindication and greatness. He, above all others we know, seeks our welfare and speaks peace to us.”
“Haman, the villain of the story, was defeated. He is called ‘the Agagite’ (Esther 3:1), which is a reference to King Agag of the Amalekites. The Amalekites were enemies of God’s people (see Exodus 17; 1 Sam. 15) and thus the seed of the serpent. Haman’s defeat showed, once again, the victory of God over the seed of the serpent. Haman’s defeat also foreshadows the day when God has subjected all enemies under the feet of Christ (see 1 Cor. 15:25). All who gather against God’s Anointed One will fail in their efforts to overcome him (Ps. 2:1-6). When we read about Haman’s plans collapsing and coming back onto his own head, we can look forward to the day when justice will reign and the seed of the serpent will be fully and finally crushed (Rom. 16:20; 2 Peter 3:13).
The Israelites now began and ended their year with feasts remembering God’s deliverance: Passover in the first month and purim in the last. The deliverance of God’s people foreshadows the ultimate vindication of the saints over their enemies. Every earthly deliverance is a sign of hope that the wicked will face the justice of God. The Lord’s Supper is the feast of the saints by which we corporately remember the redemption that purchased our deliverance (1 Cor. 11:25-26). And we look forward to the secon coming of Christ, when he will deliver dead believers through their resurrection and then confirm, at the final judgment, their justification (Rom. 8:31-34; 1 Cor. 15:20). Deliverance is our present and our future.”
