Matthew 8:23–27 KJV 1900
23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. 24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. 25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. 26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. 27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
Mark 4:35–41 KJV 1900
35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
🙏 Sermon Title: “Peace in the Middle of the Storm” 📖 Text: Matthew 8:23–27

🛶 Introduction: Storms Aren’t a Detour—They’re Part of the Journey

My brother and sisters, if you’ve ever felt like life hit you with waves when you were just trying to stay afloat, you’re not alone.
In Matthew 8, the disciples were following Jesus, obeying Himand still, the storm came.
That speaks to someone right now: your crisis isn’t proof that you’ve failed.
It’s proof that you’re human—and that Jesus is with you, even in it.

💔 Point 1: The Storm of life make us nervous, anxious, and afraid, But It Doesn’t Make Our LORD JESUS nervous, anxious, or afraid.

While the boat rocked and water crashed in, Jesus was asleep. He was not careless. Not distant. But He was calm. Why was he calm when everyone else was terrified.
Because He had authority over the thing everyone else was afraid of. (We must recognize his authority)
And there is nothing too hard for God.
God is never shaken by what shakes you.
Your diagnosis doesn’t rattle Him.
Your debt doesn’t stress Him out.
Your depression doesn’t make Him withdraw.
He’s in the boat. And when He’s in it, the storm doesn’t get the final word.

😨 Point 2: Fear Is Loud, But Faith Still Speaks

The disciples cried out, “Lord, save us!”—it wasn’t a calm prayer. It was messy.
And that’s okay. Because Jesus didn’t require perfect words—He responded to their honest cry.
You don’t need fancy prayers when life is falling apart. Just say, “Jesus, help me.”
Your whisper in weakness reaches His heart. Fear may be loud. But even a whisper of faith moves Heaven.

🌊 Point 3: He Speaks to the Wind, But He's Really Speaking to You

Jesus rebuked the wind and waves. And then it was silent.
But the moment wasn’t just about nature—it was about nurture.
He wanted the disciples to know: “You’re never at the mercy of chaos when you’re with me.”
Whatever is swirling in your life—health issues, anxiety, confusion—Jesus is speaking peace into it now.
And sometimes, He calms the storm outside. By resolving the situation.
But other times, He calms the storm inside. By giving us grace to through the situation.

🤯 Point 4: The Storm Is a Classroom

Their question—“What kind of man is this?”—wasn’t doubt.
It was awakening.
Storms show us who Jesus really is.
They strip away distraction, pride, self-sufficiency.
They reveal the Savior.
Maybe your storm is the very place where your faith will grow roots.

💡 Closing: From Panic to Peace

So to every weary heart here today: You’re not abandoned. You’re not forgotten. You’re not hopeless. Jesus is in your boat. And He’s still the one the winds and waves obey.
Lift up your eyes—not to the storm, but to the Savior. Let your cry be heard. Let your faith rise. Because the One who calms storms... is calming you right now.
Lift you Hands and say Jesus SAVE me from my doubt and fears.
