Introduction- this morning as we begin our time together in chapel, I want to start by asking maybe one of the most simple yet profound questions that might be able to ask ourselves and ask one one another. Why DID GOD CREATE US?
This is really a two part answer. God Created us so that we might glorify him and enjoy him forever. .
What does it mean to glorify God? Glorify means to show how amazing and special someone or something is — especially by giving them praise, honor, or attention. For example, when we glorify God, we are saying with our words, actions, and lives that He is the most important, powerful, and awesome being there is. We're pointing to Him and making Him look great to others.
Example- Buffalo Bills
Psalm 150:1–6 (ESV) 150 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV) 31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Secondly we see that other directive that we are given by God is that we should enjoy God. This refers to the deep and lasting satisfaction and joy that comes from a relationship with God. It's not just about fleeting pleasures, but about experiencing the fullness of life that is found in Him
Psalm 73:25–26 (ESV)25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Who is God? As I was thinking about this question some thing stuck out in my mind, I am not completely certain that I can do those two things if. I don’t know about God! Have you ever been unsure about someone or something? Or had someone in your life that for some weird reason it was har to trust them? What made that crazy feeling go away? It was getting to know them and spend time with them. TIM We have a snake in our house and his name is Tim!
So today in this mornings chapel and this evenings chapel I want for us to understand who God is. I ask you this question because as we think about our existence on this earth as we think about how we live and move and have our being, how we answer this question will give perspective on how we see all things in the world. If we are going to fulfill our God ordained role on this planet, to Glorify God and enjoying God. We must know something things about God.
The bible reveals to us everything that we need to know about God.
Do you know that the Bible doesn’t attempt to prove the existence of God? It assumes His existence from the very beginning (). What the Bible does do is reveal the His nature, Character, and His work. work of God. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. He is infinite, this simply means that he has no beginning and not even. If we remember the verse that I mentioned last night. Isaiah 44:6 Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god. 1 Timothy 1:17 “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” that is crazy to think isn’t it. That God has no beginning and not end.
ONE GOD God is One, but He exists as three Persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity means that there's only one God, but He exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are all fully God, they always work together, and they have always existed. It’s hard to fully understand, but it’s how the Bible describes who God is. We don’t believe in three gods, and we don’t believe God just pretends to be different people. The Trinity is one God in three persons — and that’s part of what makes God so amazing and beyond us." Matthew 3:16–17 “And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”” "
incomparable there is no one less like him!-2 Samuel 7:22 “Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.”
Unchanging- Malachi 3:6 ““For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.”
God exists everywhere -Psalm 139:7–12 “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.”
He knows everything Psalm 147:5 “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.”
He reigns over everything- Revelation 19:6 “Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.”
Gods Character
God is just Acts 17:31 “because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.””
loving, Ephesians 2:4–5 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—”
truthful- John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
