Why we Pray Together / Why we do Prayer Ministry
What is Prayer Ministry?
Prayer is talking to God, the good and the bad.
Prayer is often about praising God, or asking for His help.
And he gave
the apostles,
the prophets,
the evangelists,
the shepherds
and teachers,
to equip the saints
for the work of ministry,
for building up the body of Christ,
Ephesians 4:11–12
Greek for ministry (v-act-a-knee-a) means
‘to render service’,
‘to help’
‘to serve’.
So Prayer Ministry is serving each other
though coming to
and talking with God’.
Prayer ministry is not exclusive to Sundays, or Small Groups.
We should be praying with people all the time
whenever there is a need
or something to give praise for.
But because its so helpful,
its something we include when we meet together on Sundays.
We all need to meet with God,
to bring our praise
and our needs.
To experience His love,
and His care.
So, Why do we Pray for One Another?
Because people are hurting.
So we pray for people in order to care for them.
Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
Romans 12:15
Prayer ministry means
in their pain
that person is seen,
they are loved,
they are cared for.
So, Why do we Pray for One Another?
To come alongside what The Holy Spirit is already doing in a person's life.
Prayer ministry means
keep in step with The Holy Spirit,
join Him in what He’s already doing.
So, Why do we Pray for One Another?
To be empowered for life and ministry.
Prayer ministry means
people can receive a fresh refilling of The Holy Spirit,
fresh power, boldness, and courage,
to live out the Christian life
outside of the Sunday gathering.
So, Why do we Pray for One Another?
Because God’s word calls us to pray.
Throughout the scripture we see Jesus and the Apostles calling us to pray.
“And when you pray”, Matt 6 - Not if you pray
We “ought always to pray”, Luke 18
“Do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything by prayer
and supplication
with thanksgiving
let your requests be made known to God.”
Philippians 4
“Pray without ceasing”, 1 Thessalonians 5
“Is anyone among you suffering?
Let him pray.
Is anyone cheerful?
Let him sing praise.
Is anyone among you sick?
Let him call for the elders of the church,
and let them pray over him”
James 5
“Continue steadfastly in prayer!”, Colossians 4
We pray primarily because God's word tells us too.
So these are the reasons we do Prayer Ministry.
To stand with one another in praise and pain.
To join with The Holy Spirit in what He’s already doing.
And to invite The Holy Spirit to fill us again with His Spirit.
Because the Scripture calls us too.
The power of prayer can never be over-rated.
They who cannot serve God by preaching
need not regret.
If a man can but pray
he can do anything.
He who knows how to overcome with God in prayer
has Heaven
and earth
at his disposal.
Charles Spurgeon
