Brief Introduction (VERY BRIEF)

Youth pastor for many years in KC area, I have been in western KS for 18 years

been a senior pastor for 12 years
I love camp and Super Summer
Our church has brought campers here for years
both youth pastor and senior pastor
was at week 6 last year

how does this continue - fight

3 Dear friends, although I was eager to write you about the salvation we share, I found it necessary to write, appealing to you to contend for the faith that was delivered to the saints once for all.
4 For some people, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into sensuality and denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.
PRAY!
We must contend for the gospel of Jesus Christ, that has been handed down to us. Our concern is his glory and his exaltation.

If we are going to fight for the legacy of this place, fight for the gospel, then Jesus must be more than the last resort to problems we have
we must desire the gospel to be renewed in our lives every day

others are looking for cute people from other schools

I have been asked to come and talk about legacy, the legacy of Super Summer
I have been asked to come a preach the gospel to the generation that this legacy will be passed down to
I love talking about the gospel
as Paul said, “it is the power of God unto salvation to the jew first and also the gentile.”
This was the desire of Jude
he wanted to write a letter telling how great the gospel is

The appeal shows the desperation of the moment
Jude has said that he was compelled, found it necessary to write about something else
He was not writing to professionals
he did not give an age stipulation
Why do they have to be begged
it shows that they did not recognize the problem
We think pretty highly of ourselves
it is not me, my family or my church that has a wrong beliefs
Most of do not know what they believe, or really even what we believe
for too long I was in your shoes…
I did not grow up going to church as a kid. I went in Jr High and beginning of High school
but when I went to church, those people who were up front, and the Sunday school teachers, youth leaders,
I just trusted them
did not know enough to argue and who would be teaching anything wrong in church
Jude begs us to contend / struggle/ fight for the gospel
we argue about the fringe things
Adults are really big about this
Keep Christ in Christmas… while we are spending a fortune on gifts that have nothing to do with him
when we fight for the gospel it is with non-believers trying to make them act of speak like believers
Is the truth of scripture, the gospel important enough to fight for
when you find something worth fighting for you will know…

how much more do we fight for the one who gives those gifts and himself for us
it is the gospel that unites and divides
We cannot bury our heads
we must join in the fight of of preserving the true gospel, because there are some who have come in that will contaminate it

There have always been attacks on the gospel
Galatians 1 is a perfect example
not atheists or some crazy religion that had come in
these were Jewish people who believed the OT
Know who we are fighting against
Yes, you can quote Eph 6 at me
Jude not talking about the overall spiritual battle
he is speaking about physical people who have come into the church and have begun teaching a false gospel
the people that we contend with are those who claim a different gospel
How do they get in
stealth - snuck in, unknowingly
they did not advertise what they believe or they would have never been let in
What do they teach
turning the grace of our God into sensuality
sensuality = gratifying the flesh
meaning we can live how we want, Jesus will forgive us
which mocks Jesus and the cross
