Genuine Love (v 9 &10)
Genuine Love (v 9 &10)
love for God
What we do is important, but nothing is as important as our love for Jesus.
The role you play is important; you are more significant than your role.
Acts 4:13 - When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
You don’t want to give people you…you want to give them Jesus.
love for holiness
pure hearts…wholehearted devotion.
vulnerable in confession
Confess sins to others to be healed, made whole. When was the last time you confessed a sin to someone?
love for people
honor - Act in a way that helps others see God’s value toward them.
Jesus came to serve, not be served (Mark 10:45).
Honor up, down, and around.
When we choose demonstrate honor, God pours out a move of His presence.
Mark 6 Jesus couldn’t do great things because spirit of dishonor.
Passionate Diligence
Passionate Diligence
(11) — “Do not lack diligence in zeal; be fervent in the Spirit; serve the Lord”
commitment to doing your best
Passion and joy in what you do.
Fever, zeal, passion for God’s house… no greater privilege than to serve God in His house.
Diligence and excellence are seen in the details of our work.
Mark 7:37 - People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said.
Jesus’ work ethic was diligent.
Daniel was distinguishing/exceptional in his work (Dan 6:1-3)
Excellence is not perfection.
Illus: chairs being straight...excellence helps others feel cared for.
Excellence means we get better every time we do something.
Diligence is improving each time:
Do more than what’s expected.
Do more than expected without being asked.
Be Teachable
pride resists it altogether, but Humility invites feedback.
Feedback give us new perspective
Feedback helps us anticipate problems while they are small.
Luke 5 - teachable spirit obey even against conventional wisdom.
Instruction is automatically received and applied, without filtering it for our opinion or if it will work or not.
Persistent Prayer (12)
Persistent Prayer (12)
12 Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.
Fervent in the Spirit brings strength.
Strength is developed through A Standard
Samson lived by God’s standard and he got great strength. He stopped living by the standard and he lost strength.
Daniel prayed 3 x a day
Live by principles and practices, not pressures
Your spiritual strength never grows when you lower your standards.
Prayer Keeps your eyes away from comparison.
Luke 9:57-62
We will be tempted to stop working hard or overwhelmed.
We start looking around at what has been plowed and want to rest, slow down or stop.
We must keep plowing.

Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Galatians 6:6–10 “Let the one who is taught the word share all his good things with the teacher. Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap, because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.”
1 Timothy 4:12–16 “Don’t let anyone despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, give your attention to public reading, exhortation, and teaching. Don’t neglect the gift that is in you; it was given to you through prophecy, with the laying on of hands by the council of elders. Practice these things; be committed to them, so that your progress may be evident to all. Pay close attention to your life and your teaching; persevere in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
