Acts 28:1-16 - A Glimpse into God's Work

マルタで、パウロは島の長官プブリオの父親が熱と下痢で病気になっていることを知りました。これはパウロにとって明らかな機会でした。単に同情を表すこともできましたし、この状況に神様の手を認めることもできました。パウロは訪問し、祈り、手を置くことを選びました。そして神様はその人を癒されました。

We live in a world obsessed with visible productivity—where moving your mouse proves you're working, even if nothing meaningful gets accomplished. But God's work operates differently. Just like a skilled carpenter who measures carefully before cutting, God works steadily toward results, even when we can't see immediate progress.

The truth is, God loves to give us glimpses into His work. These aren't always dramatic signs in the clouds, but they're real indicators that He's actively moving in our lives and leading us according to His will.

God's Protection: A Clear Glimpse of His Work

In Acts 28, we find Paul and 276 other people shipwrecked on the island of Malta after surviving a terrible storm. This wasn't random—it was divine positioning. God had promised Paul he would reach Rome, and through the storm and shipwreck, the Lord guided them to exactly where they needed to be: Malta, strategically located near Italy, right on the path to Rome.

The protection continued on land. The native people showed "unusual kindness"—not normal hospitality, but extraordinary care for these strangers. When a viper bit Paul's hand, the locals expected him to die within minutes. Instead, Paul shook the snake into the fire and continued gathering wood as if nothing happened. God's protection was unmistakable.

Consider your own life. Can you identify times when God protected you from danger, bad decisions, or harmful relationships? Perhaps He closed doors that seemed frustrating at the time but kept you from walking down destructive paths. These moments of protection often reveal God's active work in steering our lives according to His purposes.

Special Opportunities: Doors God Opens

On Malta, Paul discovered that Publius, the island's chief official, had a sick father suffering from fever and dysentery. This presented Paul with a clear opportunity. He could have simply expressed sympathy, or he could recognize God's hand in the situation. Paul chose to visit, pray, and lay hands on the man—and God healed him.

Word spread quickly. Soon, everyone on the island who was sick came to Paul and received healing. While Luke doesn't provide all the details, we can be certain that Paul connected these miracles with the Gospel message, sharing about Jesus Christ who died and rose again for their salvation.

God still opens unexpected doors for His people. Sometimes it's a conversation with a coworker during a difficult time, an opportunity to help a struggling neighbor, or a chance to share your faith with a family member. These opportunities often appear in the middle of our own challenging circumstances. When we recognize and respond to them, they lift the weight of feeling like we're trudging through life alone.

Hearts Stirred with Excitement

When Paul finally approached Rome, something remarkable happened. The Christians there didn't just wait for his arrival—they traveled considerable distances to meet him along the way. Some went as far as the Forum of Appius and Three Taverns, journeys equivalent to flying to Tokyo to meet someone traveling to Okinawa.

This unusual excitement reveals another glimpse of God's work. When the Lord is actively moving in people's lives, He stirs up genuine enthusiasm for fellowship with other believers. This might show up as disappointment when you can't attend church, eagerness to spend time with Christian friends, or excitement about studying God's Word together.

Looking with Open Eyes

God fulfilled His promise to Paul. After all the struggles, doubts, and fears during the difficult journey, Paul reached Rome exactly as the Lord had promised. He spent two years there, renting a house and preaching the Gospel freely.

The same God who worked in Paul's life is working in yours. The question isn't whether He's active, but whether your eyes are open to see His work. Consider these questions: Has God opened any unexpected doors for you to share about Him recently? Has He protected you in a special way? Have you received encouragement that really helped you? Are you becoming more excited about being around other believers?

Our daily life involves believing in things we cannot see.
