3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Hold Onto What You Should Believe.
Hold Onto What You Should Believe.
Part 1 - What Jude desired to write about...was exactly how things should have been.
3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation,...
4 To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
Although...- this word is given in a dynamic equivalence of what the Greek says. You see, what was the desire of Jude was to bring a positive note of encouragement about the holding of the common faith.
Yet...he was prohibited from doing so because of the circumstances at hand.
Part 2 - He must contend for the Truth.
3 Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary...
He could not allow things to be left as they were.
Jude writes with a mandate of dealing with the issues at hand.
He felt burdened to delivery a different message.
He must deal with the obstacle of holding to true faith.
Part 3 — The Truth Needed No, nor will it ever need Altering.
3 ...to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.
It was delivered and Jude would stand in defense of the Truth.
Many will hear, but most will try to find/make their own path.
Many will argue with the text of the Holy Scriptures.
Many will reject the Truth when it confronts who they are.
Many will become angry with what speaks against culture.
Many of my heroes in the faith would say… “The Faith Has Been Delivered”

Battle for Truth.
Battle for Truth.
4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Peter puts it this way: 2Pet 2:1
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
Part 1
Recognize deceivers:
False Prophets as they are called by Peter and one’s who bring heresy by Jude.
Their intention is destruction yet they convey a different goal.
We can see this sort of thing in the falseness of the dragon disguised as a lamb in Revelation 13:11.
11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon.
They are designated for condemnation— in essence, their end has been decided. To quote John McArthur, “It was written out in advanced and marked out. That is to say they were ordained by God for nothing but judgment, condemnation.”
8 and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.
8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to rise from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the dwellers on earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will marvel to see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come.
Part 2
Recognize the distortion:
Let me begin by saying what is not intended here.
Jude does not intend the people not to grow
Jude does not intend for people to not be challenged in the Word
But he does want their growth and their steadfastness.
4 For certain people … who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
They use God’s grace as an opportunity to sin...but the furtherance in is the inclusion of fleshly sin— sexual misconduct, drunkenness, gluttony, destruction of the temple...
It’s an idea of antinomianism. — belief in no law or standard
It’s as the “supposed Christian” who might say so what to sin.
1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
Part 3:
Recognize denying of The Lord.
They proclaim him, but live as they do not.
16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.
You see...Jude wanted to be encouraging, but found it necessary to bring to light what should have been in the forefront of their minds.
Jesus said it this way:
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
