SCRIPTURE
40 Now, my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place. 41 “Now therefore, Arise, O Lord God, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, And let Your saints rejoice in goodness. 42 “O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed; Remember the mercies of Your servant David.”
1 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. 3 When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever.”

SOLOMON ASKED GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE
40 Now, my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place. 41 “Now therefore, Arise, O Lord God, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. Let Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, And let Your saints rejoice in goodness. 42 “O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed; Remember the mercies of Your servant David.”
Solomon prayed and asked God for seven things:
“Let Your eyes be open...” - KEEP WATCH OVER US!
“...let Your ears be attentive” - HEAR OUR PRAYER!
“Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place...” - COME BE WITH US!
Let us be “clothed with salvation” - WE WANT YOUR GRACE!
“Let Your saints rejoice in goodness” - THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH!
"Do not turn away the face of Your Anointed” - WE WANT YOUR GRACE!
“Remember the mercies...” - FULFILL YOUR PROMIES!
OLD SCHOOL WORSHIP EVOKES GOD’S PRESENCE
We need more of God’s presence.
We should desire intimacy with God.
We should want the Blesser more than the blessing.
FIRE CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN
1 When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. 2 And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.
God answered Solomon’s prayer by fire:
“...fire came down from heaven...”
“...and consumed the burnt offering and sacrifices...”
“And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord...”
“...because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.”
OLD SCHOOL WORSHIP ENCOUNTERS GOD’S POWER
When the praises go up the glory comes down.
They encountered the Shekinah glory of God and we can still encounter it today.
Encountering the glory of God is like going into the Holy of Holies.
THEY WORSHIPPED AND PRAISED THE LORD
3 When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever.” 4 Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord.
The people responded in worship:
“...they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement...”
they “...worshiped and praised the Lord...”
they said “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever.”
“...the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord.”
OLD SCHOOL WORSHIP EXALTS GOD’S PERSON
We must worship God in the right posture.
We must lift up the name of the Lord and give Him glory and praise.
I will not offer the Lord that which costs me nothing.
