I want to make a special announcement to our church family. I want to update you regarding our church finances.
Krista and I want to be transparent and with you as always no matter if its preaching the word of God or keeping updated about the heath of our finances.
I share this NOT to alarm you but inform you of where we are at. We are currently down 8% in income. When it comes to our finances we are money in - money out. Here is what I want to ask of you.. This week, you’ll be receiving a special letter from us in the mail that will includes your mid-year giving statement. We’re confident that—with everyone doing their part—we can not only close that gap, and do more for the Gospel.
We believe that Gods tithe principal is how he takes care of church… we don’t give because at TGP becuase of a law but out of principal, we believe Christ should be reflected in our life through our generous… cheerful giving.
Thanks for being such a faithful and generous church—we love you!

Series | Summer in The Psalms
This series invites us to catch a glimpse into the worship life of the ancient Jewish people as they reflected on their experiences with God. Our hope is that, alongside these ancient believers, we’ll slow down, lean in, and meet with God in a fresh and personal way this Summer.
Today we are going to be looking at Ps 91
This ps is very poetic in nature… the lines of this poem are NOT to be taken literal - but rather capture the creative imagery that the writer uses to describe the benefits found in serving God.
Lets read Ps 91 together…

Ps 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,

my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you

from the fowler’s snare

and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,

and under his wings you will find refuge;

his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,

nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,

nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,

ten thousand at your right hand,

but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes

and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,”

and you make the Most High your dwelling,

10 no harm will overtake you,

no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you

to guard you in all your ways;

WOW! Anyone already encouraged today!
***Feel free to encourage people to listen to the Holy Spirit speak to them personally as the message is preached
LETS PRAY
YOU CAN WALK OFF THE STAGE WHEN YOU SAY AMEN
Today we’re going to look at a repeated theme throughout this poem… and a great promise at the end.

Sermon Title | Benefits in the Psalms
There are lots of uncertain in this life… but there are things that we can be sure of… we notice this poem reveals many of the benefits available for the godly…
When you step back and look across history—and notice the many lives marked by sin and lostness compared to the lives of those who are devoted to Christ—it’s clear: life is simply sweeter for the people of God. They have a contentment that’s hard to find in those who choose not to follow Him
There are several incredable benefits available to those who love and follow God…. i’m going to hi-light just two of them IN YOUR NOTES… I notice

There is SAFETY. v.1, 4, 5

***Clay the scripture will comes fast, please include the point when you put up v.1 up there.
Yea… there is the benefit of Safety in this life for those who Follow Christ. This theme is repeated throughout this Ps. in various ways
For example we see this in v. 1 & 4.. lets check it out on the screen…
What does the scripture say…
I says… Whoever does what? DWELLS… (Stop for a moment and…
***DON’T READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH
…Highlight the word
Dwell
The word dwells is the Hebrew word (Yaw-shab) its describING a place to live… to stay, to remain.
So whoever lives, stays and remains…
Whoever dwells where?
IN THE what? SHELTER of the MOST HIGH
SCRIPTURE IS SAYING… for the person who lives, stays and remains in the shelter of God…
So if we we’re to pause and consider the benefits of a shelter… we can know and imagine
Shelter is a place of safety…
Its a place to run in a hail storm, rain storm, thunder storm
A shelter is a place of safety from whatever is chasing you, hunting you down…
Where is the “Shelter of the Most High”
IN YOUR NOTES I believe…

To DWELL speaks of LIVING in the ways of God ( (Ps 91:1a, 1John 3:24a)

***Clay the scripture will comes fast, please include the point when you put up 1 Jn. 3:4 & REMOVE the black text I imbedded into the passage.
I can only Imagine the Old Testament readers would think of the law of God.. because to live in and dwell in the ways of God was about their Covenant faithfulness and following the Law of God.
Why… becuase there is safety for those who follow the spirit of Gods law… LIFE JUST GOES BETTER for them.. they knew this to be true.
Even though we are NOT bound to the law the same ways the OLD Cov people were… we can all safely say… that When we do not murder, covet, hate, and follow other gods - LIFE IS BETTER.
There are BENIFITS to FOLLOWING GOD!
This reminds me of what 1 Jn 3:24a says…
1 John 3:24a “Whoever keeps his commandments (does what?) abides in God, and God in him.
Friends… for New Covenant Believers… the SHELTER of the Most HIGHT is NOT about a place… it’s about a abiding and living in a PERSON and his name is JESUS.
Jesus is where we find Shelter… he is the MOST HIGH GOD.
I believe Work of God is saying to us today..
MAKE SURE your NUMBER ONE FOCUSE is TO DWELL in the Shelter of CHRIST.
This poem continues… to repeat itself… and give different pictures and imagery of Safety for followers of God… … NOT ONLY WILL THEY HAVE SHELTER…
Lets keep reading… the rest of v.1 on the screen together… they will what
Now HIGHLIGHT words.. in v.1 REST & Shadow
STORY: Last week Pastor Clay and I ran for a quick lunch to the one and only Taco Bueno :)
On our way out of the parking lot there was a landscaping truck parked under one of the tree’s..
If you spent any time outside yesterday you would know it was HOT…. in fact my weather app said, “Feels like 103º”
Then I noticed… the guys we’re outside the truck laying on the ground in the shade for a moment of rest.
They we’re in the shadow of the tree… meant that they we’re in the shade… they we’re experiencing rest… and reprieve.. from the scorching sun… it may have been 5-10º cooler as they we’re out of the direct sunlight…
They just laid their at rest
Friends… Resting in the shadow speaks to proximity… but REST comes when you are CLOSE… CLOSENESS SPEAKS TO TRUST…. Y
IN YOUR NOTES I believe…

To REST speaks of TRUSTING in the ways of God (Ps 91:1b)

When we slow down, rest, and let our guard down—it’s a sign of trust. Resting in the shadow speaks to proximity. We don’t stay close to people we don’t trust, but with those we do—we draw near.
You can’t experience the shelter of the shadow unless you’re close. In the shadow of the Almighty, we let our guard down. We rest under His protection, trusting Him to provide shade on the hottest, most exhausting days.
Without Christ, people are burning out in the sweltering sun. But those who trust Jesus are gaining strength in His shadow. Some of you are worn out—because you’re not resting there.
Let me say it another way…
Distance means Danger; Closeness means Covering
Notice… The poem writer is repeating this theme of SAFTEY in Ps 91… it’s as if he is saying… I need to make sure your getting this…
Dwell in the Shelter
Rest in the Shadow
As we skip down to v. 4b he gives us another picture of SAFTEY as a benefit… for those in Christ lets read it
v. 4b “…UNDER his WINGS you will find (What?) refuge…”
Highlight the words UNDER & WINGS
Notice the disposition of those who live in SAFETY… in these verses… we have looked at… they are highlighted for you… they are those who DWELL… REST… and are UNDER…
When an Eagle has her chick under her wings…
No doubt she is protecting them… and giving them shelter…
But she is also uses her wings to encourage submission…
She she knows as her chicks get stronger… they lack the wisdom and don’t know the limits of their own strength… they will stumble out of the nest and expose themselves to danger and death.
So she uses the pressure of her wings to guide them and encourage their submission for their own protection
Did you hear that… Some of you might think God is holding you back… when he is actually protecting you…
I don’t know who that word is for today… but rest easy under his wings…
IN YOUR NOTES I believe…

To be UNDER speaks of SUBMITTING to the ways of God. (Ps. 91:4b)

Being a Christian is NOT about religious affiliation… or moral affiliation…
Its about living in the Kingdom of God… submitting to the ways of God.
I know we don’t like the word submit… (it goes against our flesh)
But safety comes to our life through Submitting to the governing principals of God…
We do this in many ways… for example…
In how we do Marriage and sex
See some are struggling in the area - some are living together… enjoying the benefit's of marriage outside blessings of God. But you are NOT HAPPY and at REST - why because it’s NOT gods way - your soul is telling you this in its inability to be a peace and rest in your relationship.
If you know this person is Gods plan for you, get under his authority… get married… get under his covering… if you don’t want to do a big wedding call me and we will get you married and under the authority of God. Iv’e had about 3 different people in just the last couple years take me up on this and get married so they are in alignment with God.
How about Submitting to the governing principals of God in…
Our finances
Do you have a budget, do you save and prepare for the future or do you spend everything you get? Scripture advises us greatly in this area.
Are you a generous giver… a tither? Out of principal - NOT law. God takes care of his church and its mission through the tithe. Which is 10% of our income being generously sowed into your local church.. the store house.
Friends, I have never met a person who decided to become a generous tither and extra mile giver and regret it… in fact.. I have mostly seen generous givers only become more generous as time goes by.
God seems to bless those who are generous - he knows he will get a good return on his investment. He is a wise investor :)
Friends… SUBMITTION is IMPORTANT part of Gods kingdom.
We don’t get to pick and chose what we want to submit to…
We notice in our passage that there’s a CONDITION when it comes to receiving SAFETY from God.
It’s important to know that..
Safety does not come for everyone…
But it does come for those who DWELL, REST and are UNDER.
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…

Question: How you positioned for Saftey?

List out the ways you are you Dwelling and resting in Christ?
List out the ways you under the authority of Christ?
List out the ways you are not.. and would like to be

Sermon Title | Benefits in the Psalms
The psalmist says there are benefits to following God
First he say’s…
THERE IS SAFTEY…
The 2nd and last benefit I want to hi-light in this poem IN YOUR NOTES is…

There is SATISFACTION. v.14-16

Yea… there is the benefit of Satisfaction in this life for those who Follow Christ. A beautiful promise that closes out in v. 16 of this Ps.
To be satisfied… is to be FULL… to NOT need a thing…
Have you ever just sat back after a good meal…
Looked at the person across from you and just knotted your head in satisfaction.
The look in your eye say’s it all… It say’s I’m good… I have no needs… I’m ready for a nap… becuase I am satisfied…
I love how the writer poetically expresses the heart of God here…. in v. 14-16 lets look at it… on the screen…
God say’s …

14 “Because he loves me,”

Becuase WHO LOVES ME?
Those who dwell, rest, and under…
God say’s I have noticed by their action that they love me…
I’ve noticed not just lip service, it’s life service (You can write that down)

says the LORD, “I will rescue him;

I will protect him,

Why…

for he acknowledges my name.

How will God satisfy us… V 15a…says becuase when my dwellers…

15a He will call on me, and I will answer him….

What does he satisfy us with… ? IN YOUR NOTES

He satisfies with ANSWERED prayers v.15

When we call on God, when we are looking for answers… He speaks.
Ever week we focus on teaching you to listen for the voice of God in the message.
We ask you to stand if he has spoken to you… EVERY WEEK 75% or more of the people stand up as a witness to hearing the VOICE of God.
Friends, when we dwell… in Christ, when we submit to Christ when pray… he hears… and he answers.
I’m telling you… it’s satisfying hear the voice of God… it’s comforting… hearing the voice of God…
It slows me down… puts me at rest
How else does he satisfy us… IN YOUR NOTES

He satisfies with PROLONGED life v.16

We see this in v. 16 Lets check it out… on the screen

16 With long life I will satisfy him

and show him my salvation.”

The word “long” here points to more than just length of days—it points to forever.
Yes, God has blessed some with long lives—seeing kids, grandkids, even great-grandkids grow and thrive is a beautiful reward.
But this verse speaks of something greater: eternal life. It’s linked with salvation—God saving us from the final effects of sin -
If you were with us during Daniel, you know: one day, God will restore all things. We’ll live again in a world untouched by sin, in perfect joy with Him forever. No words can capture how satisfying that will be.
In fact scripture says…
1 Corinthians 2:9 “But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—”
Anyone want to be SATISFIED in this life?
Here is the question I believe scripture is inviting us to ask ourselves today…

Question: How has God satisfied you?

Consider his ways…
How has he answered your prayers through out your lifetime?
How has he satisfied you with LONG LIFE?
Breath, health, survival, etc… Salvation…
Satisfaction is found by dwellers.. those who are close to the shadow… and in submission under the wings of the Almighty
Maybe today you are NOT close to the most high… you are NOT saved… today could be your day

******DON’T FORGET OFFERING MESSAGE*****
So today… if you do NOT know Jesus as your Lord and Savior today is your day…
Salvation Altar Call
I believe Jesus is here today, and He wants to save you. Salvation simply means to deliver or to free. It’s not just about delivering you…
It’s about believing
Believing in Jesus means trusting what He say’s—about sin, and eternal punishment, thats the bad news.
The good news is this… that His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins, making us right with God.
Ephesians 2:8 reminds us: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Salvation requires two things:
1. God’s Grace—His undeserved gift of forgiveness and life because of His love for you.
2. Faith—placing your trust in Him for salvation.
If you’ve never asked Jesus to save you, today is your day. If you’d like ask him… , raise your hand.
I want to invite you to Repeat a prayer after me
· There is nothing magical in this prayer.. it simply is a way of declaring to Jesus what has taken place in your heart.
Here is how I would like to end the service for everyone else….
Call to Action Altar Call
If you want to experiance Saftey & satisfaction in an area of your life that seems to be full of strife and struggle… I want to invite you to stand on your feet today… we want to pray for you…
I want to give you a moment today… to get close to the shadow… to rest in him.. to get back under his authorty..
Satisfaction is found by dwellers.. those who are close to the shadow… and in submission under the wings of the Almighty
Perhaps you are unsatisfied in a particular space in your life becuase are are not
Dwelling in Gods ways in this space.
Rest in Gods shadow in this space.
Under Gods authority in this space.
I TRUST IN GOD…
Invite people back to their seats…

Going Deeper

What stuck out to you the in this passage? v. 1-16,
Are you positioned for safety? v.1, 4b, 1 Jn.
Is there any are of life that is not under the submission of his Lordship? (Financial, Family, Relational, etc.) v. 4-8
How has God satisfied you? v. 9-13
What might the Holy Spirit be saying to you in light of this teaching?
How might the Holy Spirit want to transform you in light of this teaching?
What actions might the Holy Spirit want to take in light of this teaching?
Tongues & Interpretation
1. To STRENGTHEN the Church (1 Cor14:5)
For prophecy is greater than SPEAKING in TONGUES, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be STRENGTHENED.
Believers, God has operated through this gift today to strengthen you today. Let your faith be strengthened and know that God is in control and using supernatural measures to speak to us.
2. Is a SIGN for unbelievers. (1Cor. 14: 21a, 22)
1 Corinthians 14:21–22 (ESV)
In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers.
22 -  So you see that speaking in tongues is a SIGN, not for believers, but for UNBELIEVERS.
The Bible explains to us God has chosen to use this gift to be a sign for you. A sign for what? It is a sign of his realness for those of you who have been doubting or questioning the existence of God. He wants you to know he is REAL and he wants to bring you spiritual life and health. If you're in here today and you don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior... he wants you to know he has gone to great lengths to show you his love today. (Great opportunity for a salvation altar call if it fits).
