This year we had an awesome year of VBS
The theme is Maginified
Made to Magnify God
3 O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.
We are made to magnify an Awesome, Amazing, Powerful God
We spent the last 5 days looking at the details of God’s character in our own lives and how we can have a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus and then how we are to love our lives forever changed because of that relationship through Jesus we then get to magnify the God to a lost and hurting world
To magnify the Lord we must first look and understand the details of the Lord
Sometimes we get lost at the bigness of the Lord and so this week in our class we dove into the small things
We had magnifying glasses so that we could look at the small things
We looked at our fingerprints we looked at the paint on the wall, we looked at the grass and sticks outside
And we learned and to know that God is very much in the big stuff and we can see that but for sure God is in the details of our lives
Day 1
We got used to the songs and schedule
We looked at
13 And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 “Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” 16 And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.
The disciples got in the way of the children coming to Jesus
They were so focused on the ministry event they lost sight of the people
Jesus had to remind them and especially those kids
Jesus said let the children come to me
To know and understand that Christ cares for you and I is so very important if we can expect to magnify the Lord
If we are important to Him then they or you or whoever is just as important to God
Especially for a child
What a joy it was to tell the 1st and 2nd graders and I would be the other classes to but what joy it was to share with them that Jesus cares for them
For a 1st grader to realize they are important to the speaker of stare the life giving God is amazing
Then Day 2 brought more songs and more treats
We talked about how Jesus can calm the stroms
Each day during the pre show we had an illusion that dealt with the lesson for the day
The youth did a great job of these
35 On that day, when evening came, He said to them, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd, they took Him along with them in the boat, just as He was; and other boats were with Him. 37 And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up. 38 Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 39 And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. 40 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?” 41 They became very much afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”
Jesus told the storm Hush, be still
These were professional fisherman some of them
They had spent time on the water in all kinds of weather
For them to be nervous would have made all of us nervous
And yet they should have been reminded of who they had in boat
What a reminder for us that we can trust the Lord
I think maybe we once again get so distract by the things of this world
Or the struggles of this world
The lack of pay, or the prices going up, or what is happening around the world
Or where this money is ogin gor that money
Who wins this election or that election
We even get so distracted by the what if’s
What if we lose all of our retirement
What if this or that
And as we read this lesson what a joy and great reminder that we can and should trust in the Lord
Jesus said Hush be still
And the storm stopped
Doesn’t matter the boat, the storm all that matters is who you have in the boat
Let me be clear it is Jesus is all that matters
Then Day 3
This particular day we seemed to have energy
We started out shouting at each other We love Jesus yes we do we love Jesus how bout you
Back and forth to different classes
The kids loved it, and got so excited
It just so happened that on that day we talked about just that
God’s love for you and I
8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” 11 She said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water?
And then
15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.” 16 He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.” 19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”
We talked about the women at the well
We shared how first of all for a Jew to talk to a Samaritan much less a Samaritan women would have not been a thing
Then to note she was getting water when everyone was not
Those things tell me she wasn’t welcome because of what she had done in her life
And yet no matter how many husbands she had or what she had done
Jesus still talked with her
It didn’t matter the public’s thoughts on a Jewish man a Jewish teacher talking to a lowely Samaritan women
Jesus did it anyway
That is the power of the Love of God
That God loves you so much
Doesn’t matter what you have done He loves you
We were able to also show that God’s love doesn’t leave you were you are
She couldn’t stay in the sin if she wanted to walk with Jesus
We see she runs to the town and tells everyone
Church you need to hear this simple truth from scripture
Jesus loves you
doesn’t matter what you have done or who you are
Doesn’t matter you education, or where you live or even where you come from
Jesus loves you
His love won’t keep you where you are at
The Love of Jesus is so powerful that you cannot remain in sin and walk with Jesus
Then we came to Day 4
Day 4 for us this year was our Gospel presentation
Our students did a fantastic job of sharing the power of Jesus through a skit
Then Erick shared a demonstration that highlighted Jesus’s converstation with Nicodemus
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 “Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Jesus shares with Nicodemus on how to be saved
That you are to be born again
The whole premeis of the Gospel is that you must change and you can’t do it on your own
That is where Jesus comes into play
The Holy Spirit inside you does the changeing
But you are in need of a change all together
You can’t get into heaven on your own
YOu can’t be good enough
We learned that God loves you and His love won’t let you stay the same
So you must be born oagain
It is not just washing the sin off on the outside but to allow the Spirit of God inside to change you from the outside in
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
How we get the Spirit of God inside us
Is to admit you are a sinner and repent of that
To admit is to agree with God that you and I are sinners
If you have to ask if something you are doing is a sin then it probably is and you should stop
Sin is anything that is against God
To repent is the act of seeking forgivness and setting up things in your life to flee from sin the act of stopping what you are doing that is against God
To admit that you are a siner and repent of your sin
To believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised Him from the grave
To believe and trust that God is who He says He is and has done and will do what He says He has done and will do
It takes faith
Then finally it is to confess Christ to others
Proclaim the Lord to your friends, family and even strangers
To magnify the Lord in your life so others can see
This is how you invite the Spirit of the Lord to dwell within your
(ERICK Illusion)
Then finally we came to Day 5
Its not like we were tired of anything right
But non the less we came to Day 5
We made it
What a great day to wrap up what we had talked about
We were to learn that God Sees me even if I am small
We were to learn that God cares about me
We were to learn that God loves me no matter what I have done
We were to learn that God forgives me and I can recieve the Spirit of God
Finally to wrap it up we were to learn that God is faithful
we looked at
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
We can trust the Lord because He we see God is faithful
So church when He says that you are forgiven
We can trust the Lord that we are forgiven
When He says that you are loved we can trust that you are loved
Because God is faithful
