Ephesians 1:7 KJV 1900
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
We have invested a total of four session discussing Rules that Cannot be Rewritten…
No matter what society says, everyone knows, modern Christianity professes…
There are some rules that cannot be rewritten!
Rule one: Rule of God’s Authority
The Creation cannot argue with the creator
Authority flows from ownership
Rebellion; the original sin
Rule two: Rule of Right and Wrong
Conscience is a witness, scripture is the standard
Society has no authority to redefine sin
Truth is not a democracy
Rule three: Rule of Sin and Judgement
Wages of sin
Devine appointment with death
The Power of Grace
Today’s rule: The Rule of Redemption
Remaining rule: The Rule of Identity and Purpose
Today: The Rule of Redemption
The Story of Redemption
Redemption is more than a church word—it’s the heartbeat of the gospel.
It’s the story of God buying back what was lost…
Paying the price we could never afford…
Rescuing us from ruin and restoring us to relationship.
The word redeem means “to buy back,” “to set free by payment,” or “to rescue by ransom.”
When Jesus hung on the cross and cried, “It is finished,” He was declaring the debt paid in full.
I. The Need for Redemption - Romans 3:23 — “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
We were not just lost—we were in bondage:
I love the parallels in the bible…
Exodus 6:6 “6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments:”
Israel was slaves to Egypt and had to be bought back - or redeemed.
Sin made slaves of us all.
Nothing I could do could change that.
No amount of religion could cleanse us.
We needed a Redeemer—not a coach, not a cheerleader—but a Savior.
II. The Price of Redemption was very steep!
Ephesians 1:7 — “In whom we have redemption through His blood…”
Redemption isn’t free—It cost Jesus everything.
1 Peter 1:18–19 — “Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold... but with the precious blood of Christ.”
The cross wasn’t an accident. It was a transaction.
Jesus didn’t just die for you—He died instead of you.
He satisfied the justice of God so that mercy could flow freely.
Illustration: Imagine someone paying off your mortgage, your debts, your crimes—and then adopting you into their family. That’s redemption.
III. The Result of Redemption
What happens when we are redeemed?
Forgiveness of sins (Eph. 1:7)
Freedom from bondage (Romans 6:6–7)
Adoption into God’s family (Galatians 4:5)
An eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15)
Redemption doesn’t just clean the record—it changes the person.
We are no longer:
Orphans—we are sons and daughters.
Slaves—we are free.
Lost—we are found.
IV. Redemption demands a response:
Receive it.
You can’t earn it. You must accept it by faith.
Romans 10:9 — “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus…”
Rejoice in it.
Let joy overflow from knowing you’ve been set free.
Psalm 107:2 — “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…”
Live like it.
Obey him! You now belong to him…
John 14:15 — “15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Share it.
Redemption is too good to keep to yourself.
Tell the story. Point to the Redeemer.
Conclusion: Exclusive Path, Inclusive Call
Unfortunately there are few that will walk this path…
Matthew 7:13–14 “13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
But it is for everyone!
Revelation 22:17 “17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
What Redemption Means for Us Today
Hope – Redemption gives us a future and inheritance (Ephesians 1:14)
Forgiveness – Our debt is paid in full (Colossians 1:14).
Freedom – We are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6–7).
Belonging – We are now God’s possession (Titus 2:14).
