52 Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”
Now, more that murmur, they are arguing, somewhat of a commotion.
Jesus just got done saying no one can come to me unless. No one can. How can this man.
Again, you’re probably asking the wrong question. This one has done many things that ordinary men don’t do. You know that well enough. Why aren’t you asking him for it? Why aren’t you asking him to help you understand. We see the contrast between a justified person and non justified person. I believe, help my unbelief! Here, How can this one?
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.
Jesus responds not to there skepticism, but with great solemnity, urgency. Listen up, it is indispensable truth I put before you. Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood…..forget about how. Your life is on the line here. Cry out to God for help concerning the destitution of your souls. You must trust in me, you must take to heart and appropriate my words and teaching to yourselves. You must take me to yourself. You have no vitality in yourselves if you don’t. In other words, you remain dead.
54 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
To believe in Jesus now, is to particiopate in a quality of life that reaches into eternity. When one savingly believes in Jesus they have tasted eternity. How. Because through Christ, you’ve been brought into the eternal fellowship of the triune God. As creatures, in the fullest way a creature can commune with God, that’s what you have by Christ. The knowledge and intimacy Adam and Eve had. Thats the renewal of knowledge that the new creature has. However the quality of life the believer has is greater, because Jesus garuntees an unchangeable communion. I will raise him up on the last day. I’ll complete it by resurrection power. None that beieve in me will be dissapointed on the last day. If you are united to me by faith dear one, I will declair before all the world that this one was mine, vindicated by their Spirit filled life, enter into my glory.
55 “For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
Because, the bread that is found in me is not typical bread, and my blood is not typical drink. What your Father’s ate and drank was good, it wasn’t false, but it also was not the true bread and true drink. They pointed to me the true bread and drink. This is what your Scriptures did. They testify about me.
The flesh the life of the scarificail animals was good flesh, they were good life, and their blood was good blood, acceptable for the time. But they are not like my life and death. They do not render eternal merit. They cannot stand before the bar of God, but mine can. MY justifying work on behalf of the many can stand up. Becasue my life is without blemish as your representative, my blood is acceptable to God as representative of the death you deserved to die. Because both are not only representative of humanity, but also merited with the power of divinity. You need God to both live for you and die for you. Only God can take ruined humanity out from it’s fallen state. No mere man can do it! This is all to the exaultation of Christ. God so ordered and orchistrated the fall, not a bare permision. But ordered it, that we fallen image bearers would be redeemed in Christ, and would glory and boast and exalt him alone, to the glory of God the Father. This is redemption from, through, and to the triune God. Any other redemptive schema is either damning or terribly confused and deformed as a man centered redemption. Any sharing with God in this great work is a disfigured redemption at best. No creatures are being applauded or in glory.
Not an animal, nor a mere man could not give true food and drink, true flesh and blood, but the God man can, the Son of Man can and does and will for you, for you who will eat and drink!
56 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
This word abide is certainly setting us up for Chapter 15, but what can we say about it here?
57 “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.
My life is eternally given by the Father. I have life in myself because the Father gives it eternally. When did the Father give you this life, one might ask? He gave it, because my life, my begottenness are not happenings but they are from eternity to eternity, I am that I am. My existence is identical with my being. My life is identaical with my existence theerefore whoever eats me will live forever becasue he eats not of food which might run out, he gets not life that might perish but a life that never began and never ends, this is the quality of life I give. The one who its of it therefore can be confident that he will live on. He will live because of me. Because of who I am as the eternal Son of the Father.
58 “This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.”
As I said, I came down out of my eternal abode for you and your salvation. Not to give pershable bread but everlasting bread.
App. Your supreme source of joy is to be found in Christ.
