“Your Work is Worship” – Extended Casual Talk Script (7–8 minutes)
1. Quick Greeting & Connection (45 sec)
Hey everyone — really appreciate you letting me take a few minutes with you today.
I know how fast-paced this world is. You're juggling deadlines, breaking news, fact-checking, editing, chasing down leads… and still trying to drink cold coffee before it turns warm again.
And honestly, a lot of what you do probably goes unnoticed. The public sees the final product, but they don’t see the scramble behind it.
So today, I just want to hit pause for a second — and remind you of something simple but huge: what you do matters. To people, yes — but also to God.
2. Key Verse – Make It Real (45 sec)
There’s this verse in the Bible — Colossians 3:23 — and it says:
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for people.”
Now, that’s not just talking about pastors or missionaries. It says whatever.
That means you — journalists, editors, designers, photographers, admins, producers, interns — all of it.
If you’re giving it your best and doing it with the right heart, that’s meaningful to God.
3. Main Point – Your Work Is Worship (3 min)
Let’s be real — most people think “worship” means singing at church or praying or reading the Bible. And sure, that’s part of it.
But the Bible says worship is way bigger than that. It’s about how you live, how you work, how you show up.
So think about this:
When
you write a story with accuracy and fairness, that’s worship.
When
you go the extra mile to get something right instead of just fast, that’s
worship.
When
you treat your team with patience even when the pressure is high — that’s
worship too.
God’s not just looking at the what, He’s looking at the how.
And when you give your best, when you work with integrity, when you stay kind in stressful moments — you’re offering something to Him, not just your boss or your audience.
You’re not just doing a job. You’re doing something eternal.
And that changes how we see the work, right? It gives it weight. Dignity. Even when it feels routine or exhausting or underappreciated.
4. Real-Life Connection – The Reality of News Work (2 min)
Look, I know this job isn’t always glamorous.
You’ve got crazy deadlines. News breaks at the worst times. You might be working holidays, nights, early mornings — and people still get mad in the comments section.
Some days it probably feels like you’re just trying to survive to the next deadline.
But here’s the thing: what if you saw all of that — even the hard, annoying parts — as part of your worship?
Because you’re not just pushing out content. You’re shaping the conversation.
You’re informing the community. You’re holding truth in your hands.
And God sees that. Even when the public doesn’t. Even when your boss forgets to say thanks.
He sees how you show up. He sees how you treat people. He sees your attitude, your effort, your heart.
And He says, “That counts.”
5. Encouragement & Prayer (1–2 min)
So I just want to encourage you today:
You don’t have to change careers to honor God. You just have to change your perspective.
Whatever you’re doing — if you’re doing it with excellence, with humility, with a heart to serve — you’re worshiping.
You don’t just report the news. You reflect God’s heart for truth, order, and service.
You don’t just type words. You bring light.
You don’t just work. You worship.
Let that sink in today. Let it remind you that your job has purpose — even on the tough days.
Optional Prayer (if the setting allows):
Can I pray for you real quick?
“God, thank You for everyone in this room — for their talents, their drive, their dedication. This is hard work. But it matters. I ask that You’d bless their hands, their minds, and their hearts. Help them feel seen. Give them peace in the pressure. Purpose in the grind. And joy in the everyday moments. Let their work bring hope, truth, and clarity to the people they serve. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Thanks for letting me share. Keep going. Keep showing up. What you’re doing isn’t just work — it’s worship.
