When God Moves: Joining Him in His Work
When God Moves: Joining Him in His Work
Bible Study — Part 4
Opening Story: “The Forgotten Toolshed”
Opening Story: “The Forgotten Toolshed”
Years ago in rural Georgia, an old man walked into a dusty toolshed that hadn’t been touched in over a decade.
Rusted tools hung on the walls.
Spider webs stretched across corners.
But in the center of the shed stood a perfectly preserved plow.
The man dusted it off, hooked it to a mule, and plowed a field that had long gone barren.
By fall, the field was lush with fruit.
The tools had always been there—but they had never been used.
They were available, but not active.
This is often how we relate to the work of God.
We think He saved us, then shelved us, waiting for a future assignment.
But Scripture teaches that God is always at work—and He invites His servants to join Him.
“God doesn’t give us a job to do and then leave us to accomplish it on our own. He’s always at work, and He accomplishes His purposes through His people.”
— Henry Blackaby
Main Idea: God is not waiting on you to get moving. He is already moving—and He’s waiting for you to join Him.

Part 1: Understanding How God Works
Part 1: Understanding How God Works
Reality 1: God is Always at Work Around You
Reality 1: God is Always at Work Around You
Exodus 2:23–25; John 5:17
“God saw the Israelites, and God knew” (Exodus 2:25)
John 5:17 “In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
Even before Moses saw the burning bush, God was already orchestrating a rescue plan.
He heard the cries of His people, and He remembered His covenant.
God’s activity precedes our awareness.
Life Application: Ask God to help you see where He is already at work in your family, workplace, or community.
Don’t ask, “What should I do?”
Ask, “Where is God already working?”
“Watch to see where God is working and join Him!” — Blackaby
Cross References:
Amos 3:7 — God reveals His plans to His servants.
“Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing
without revealing his plan
to his servants the prophets.”
John 5:19 — The Son does only what He sees the Father doing.19 “Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”
Reality 2: God Invites You into a Love Relationship with Him
Reality 2: God Invites You into a Love Relationship with Him
Exodus 24:12–18; John 15:15
“The LORD said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain and stay there...’” (Exodus 24:12)
John 15:15 “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
God didn’t just want Moses to deliver Israel—He wanted Moses to know Him.
Before we can serve effectively, we must first love deeply. Every work of God begins with relationship.
Life Application: Don’t focus on doing great things for God.
Focus on knowing Him intimately.
Your private relationship fuels your public obedience.
Cross References:
James 4:8 — “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”
Psalm 103:7 — “He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the people of Israel.”
Reality 3: God Invites You to Join Him in His Work
Reality 3: God Invites You to Join Him in His Work
Exodus 3:8–10
“I am sending you to Pharaoh so that you may lead my people out of Egypt.” (Exodus 3:10)
God didn’t need Moses to free the Israelites.
He could have done it in a moment.
But He chose to involve Moses, flaws and all. Why?
Because God wants to accomplish His work through us, not apart from us.
“When God is ready to do something, He takes the initiative to come to one of His servants.” — Blackaby
Life Application: Have you sensed God calling you to join Him in something specific?
It may be small—a conversation, a gesture, a prayer.
Don’t delay. Obedience begins with the next step, not the final result.
Cross References:
2 Corinthians 6:1 — “We are God’s coworkers.”
Ephesians 2:10 — “Created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.”

Personal Reflection & Prayer
Personal Reflection & Prayer
Take a moment to write a prayer based on what you’ve studied today. Ask God to open your eyes to His work, deepen your love relationship with Him, and give you courage to join Him.
Example Prayer:
“Lord, I confess that I often try to serve You without first seeking You.
Help me to love You more, listen to You closely, and follow You faithfully.
Show me where You’re working—and give me the boldness to join You there.”
Closing Thought
Closing Thought
You cannot stay where you are and go with God.
Every call to join Him is also a call to leave something behind—comfort, control, or complacency.
“You can’t go with God and stay where you are.” — Henry Blackaby
