Jews are not fond of Christians! I know it’s a bold statement.
I am reading a book right now from a Jewish Christian what we would call a Messianic Jew Stephen M Yulish. I love the book it throws in all this mix mash of Hebrew English slang like Klutz and Boychik it’s interesting but he comments on how his mother HATES CHRISTIANS absolutely can not stand to be around them. Why? We as Christian people adore the Jews
Hitler was a “Christian” I know that we do not claim Hitler in the Christian faith how could we but the wounds go much deeper than just Hitley and just white or german people and that is because their are a few ways to look at the Jew Christian relationship and hopefully Romans 9-11 will help us understand this. I will warn you this. You have to read the entire context because if you just read parts you could be heading down a dangerous slope just like Hitler
Three views
1 Anti Judistic and Anti Semitic Replacement Theology
2 Anti Judistic and pro Semitic Dispensational
3 Pro Judisitic and pro Semetic Bi coventalism
Sonderweg - Special Way is the phrase used to describe the last.
Two are dangerous one approach with caution
What do you think just thinking about it. The one that sounds best is probably the most dangerous and the one that sounds worst is probably next to it.
Paul’s heart is breaking.
Romans 9:1–2 I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart.
Paul is telling the reader that this is a serious matter. Normally I would say this sounds like a teenager in trouble who is about to tell you the worst lie imaginable. I’m telling the truth, I am not lying together wow they probably are lying but not in this case because Paul is about to have one of the most magnanimous statements possible in the next verse. Magninomy is showing care and concern or kindness to a rival or enemy. Paul’s heart breaks for the Jews that want him dead.
Paul is Magnanimous the Jew
Romans 9:3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,
He offers that he would be cursed that they would find salvation.
only Christ could take the curse.
Galatians 3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
Paul wishes he could do that but he can’t
Moses reacted the same way.
Exodus 32:30–32 Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now, if You will forgive their sin—but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.”
We should have the heart for Israel that they should be saved no matter what. Therefore take out replacement theology anti judisim anti semitic. God still has a heart for Israel and we should too much in the same way Paul did. The Church did not replace Israel.
Paul deeply cared for Israel, he isn’t lying or joking. He is serious about God’s people.
He said so
God has a future plan for Israel.
Romans 9:4 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises;
The church is the seed of Abraham.
Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
We have not replaced Israel. We are born out of Israel. We are just the continuation of God’s chosen people part of the family of God. We are all believers. But does that mean that the Jew is saved today through Judiasim. Not so fast but for right now let’s not abuse the Jew with hatred like Hitler we should love and show genuince concern for God’s people.
We are all adopted into God’s family.
Romans 8:14–17 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
The church are beneficiers of God’s glory just like Israel.
Romans 8:30 “Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”
The Jew been cut off from eschatological salvation?
Eschatological simply means the prophetic future. and the answer is, NO God has a plan for the salvation of Israel.
God has a future plan for Israel.
Revelation 7:4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed:
God isn’t finished with his people yet.
Paul believes that God’s promises for Abraham are continuing for the future of Israel and we will find that later on in chapter 11 He still has a plan for them but
Christ came in the flesh to Israel.
Romans 9:5 “of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.”
Jesus came as the Messiah of the Jews.
John 1:11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
Jesus came to this world for you don’t forget that but He didn’t just come for you He came as the Messiah of the Jews they just rejected Him But that doesn’t mean that he rejected them
This may be one of the best verses about Jesus being both God and man but be careful.
Jesus being God is one the most important Bible topics.
Jude 4 “For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The RSV says of this verse to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ. God who is over all be blessed for ever.[a] Amen.
It separates the passage very pro Jehovah’s witness because it takes away the Divinity of Jesus that most other translations feel is clear.
Jesus is God.
John 1:1–5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shined in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
They like to change that passage too to fit their own needs. Be careful of sneaky deception. Paul is trying to say that Jesus came as God in the flesh to the Jews. He is one with the eternal father.
