Mission Trip - 26 teens to Asheville, NC to help with hurricane relief
While we were there we cleaned up some trash and debris, built two new fences, and painted as well.
Mission Trip Video
Honor Volunteers - Beth, Laurie, and Tyler
Something I couldn’t add in the video, is White Water Rafting.
White Water Rafting Photos
What was so impactful, you’d see shipping containers, pvc pipes, tires, playsets, traffic cones, parts of cars, pieces of metal, clothes, etc. all throughout the river.
Piles that they have made in their spare time of stuff that they can’t fill in rafts.
This was just a tiny glimpse of the devastations of hurricane relief.
108 fatalities
Estimated economical damages of Hurricane Helene 53-59 billion dollars
This was such an important trip for us, because it hits so close to home.
This could have been us.
News Article
Many of the homeowners we worked with were so affected by the work that we had been doing. They were in Waynesville about 40 minutes from Asheville.
They interviewed one of the mission site directors and he had talked about how many of the people in that area have felt forgotten about. Probably because they were far enough from Asheville.
But in the article, by that time, TEAMeffort was able to help over 2 dozen homes with roofing, demolishing barns, fixing or rebuilding things that had been washed away.
It went on to say there was a common theme when interviewing multiple students, there was a common theme or thread in all of their responses in talking to the news reporter. They all shared the same sentiment about the love of God.
Half of the days, homeowners who we weren’t even working on their house would come and give the kids popsicles and treats, they were so affected by seeing dozens of teenagers give up their time to help their community.
These trips are so influential for both sides. We see the way they grow closer to God through these trips and experience the love of God through them.
Beth - Girls talked about the Bible for hours for their free night.
They experience this Unity with one another. It went on to say there was a common theme when interviewing multiple students, there was a common theme or thread in all of their responses in talking to the news reporter. They all shared the same sentiment about the love of God.
They experience this Unity with one another. Worshipping alongside each other. Serving alongside each other. Praying with one another. They are unified through the Love of God
V2 - Make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being full accord and of one mind.
How do we do that?
V5 - Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.
We Commit to Adopting the Mindset of Christ.
What did it mean for Christ to become a servant?
First, Jesus was with God in the beginning. In heaven, He was free from the burden of sin.
Secondly, in heaven he lived in eternal bliss.
Third, in heaven he exercised great authority and power.
V6-8Jesus had it all, but he came to earth, and made himself nothing.
Shining in the Darkness: Philippians Simply Explained Follow in the Footsteps of Christ’s Humility

He learned a trade. He knew what it was to be hungry and thirsty. He became weary at the end of the day and he enjoyed the rejuvenating power of sleep. He suffered real pain and anguish as he was nailed to the cross of Calvary. In fact, he was made just like us and he shared in our humanity as he was made like his brothers in every way

We Commit to Holy Ambition
V3 - Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
“Don’t do that!”
Paul was saying “Don’t do that!”
Do not work out of selfish ambition.
When we think of greatness in the world today, we often think about accomplishment, visibility, and recognition. This is not the same in the kingdom of God.
According to Jesus, greatness is measured differently.
In the kingdom of God, greatness is defined as the sacrifice of self for the sake of others. In the world today, greatness often comes by sacrificing others for the sake of the self.
In Matthew 20:26-28 Jesus explains this.
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave, just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
In the kingdom of God, Jesus defines greatness by what we give, not what we achieve.
Jesus doesn’t rebuke greatness; He just redirects it. He directs us away from destructive ambition to holy ambition—ambition that elevates others, washes feet, and pays the price—the kind Jesus showed that still draws us to Him thousands of years later.
Holy Ambition starts with Kingdom Vision.
We commit to walk in humility.
The Kingdom of God is countercultural. The only way up in the Kingdom is down.
Soup Ministry - Katie “Can we do this again?”
This trip was so special because it opens their eyes to the way they can show up to serve in the community.

APPLICATION

Show Up Personally
Show up in someone’s life this week! How can you use your gifts?
Send them an encouraging text, ask how they are doing and genuinely listen, offer to pray for them.
Figure out some ways and times you can be present in the lives of your people.
Show Up Locally
How can you show up locally for the Kingdom of God to come to earth as we pray this prayer each week?
