Hebrews 11:7–19 NIV
7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. 8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. 13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. 17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.

v7-9 The world had never seen rain before, Noah had never seen rain before, but for 120 years he built and ark for a rain that he knew was coming but had never seen before.
Remember that faith is the substance of what is not seen Hebrews 11:1
Hebrews 11:10 NIV
10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
v10 We are still waiting on that promise, if you want a description of it look to Rev 21:10-27.
Fire Bible Chapter 11

Abraham serves as an example for all God’s people, reminding us that we are only traveling through this world on our way to God’s city and his home for us in heaven. We are not to look for unending security in this present life or be attached to this present world (vv. 14, 16; 13:14). We must consider ourselves as strangers and exiles on the earth. This is not our homeland; the end of our journey will be “a better country” (v. 16), “the heavenly Jerusalem” (12:22) and the “city that is to come” (13:14).

Hebrews 11:11–12 NIV
11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
v11-12 God took what seemed impossible by nature for man, for a 99 year old to father a child and made it happen. Why? To prove that He was God.
יהוה (YHWH)
Hebrews 11:13 NIV
13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.
v13 They didn’t get to see the promises in this life. But they remained faithful.
Hebrews 11:14–16 NIV
14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
v14-16 (The Ulster-Scotts come to America)
They had no desire to return back to what was.
They could have had an easier life if they had stayed and submitted to tyranny and ungodliness.
The devil promises a good life if we would just submit to the slavery of sin.
Millions of people everyday scream that they are living life while it is being sucked right out of them.
Hebrews 11:17–19 NIV
17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.
v17-19 Abraham had already seen God defy nature and give him and Sara a son, He trusted God to be God and knew that God does not lie or retract His Word.
Jesus gave us a promise the he would return and for us to remember him through his Supper or what we call the Eucharist. The word 'Eucharist' is derived from the Greek word eucharistia, meaning 'thanksgiving. ' And that is what faith gives us, a hope and a thankful heart.
If you don’t have that hope yet and do not know Jesus as your savior come find me afterwards and we can sit down. Don’t leave today without Jesus in your heart.
