James 1:2-8
James 1:2-8
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
We don’t want to get the wrong idea about our faith
We aren’t called to have it easy, smooth, free from challenges.
We ARE called to face challenges with faith and endurance.
SO LET IT GROW!
Verse 4 clearly shows that we have a role in our own faith journey.
When things get tough in your life, do you seek comforts?
Do you look for who is to blame and slip into judgment?
What if you could accept the discipline that comes from the Lord as developing.
What does it mean to be perfect and complete, needing nothing?
James is not speaking about having your worldly needs met so fully that you need nothing.
What we NEED is a faith that endures in the face of difficulty, and if we will ALLOW it, even the difficult parts of our lives will grow our faith, IF we look to the Lord for our solutions. That sounds like a cliche, but it’s true.
We enhance our problems by blaming others, blaming the lord, blaming the government, blaming the alphabet people, blaming the devil.
If you are in a really bad situation and you need to get out, speak to someone you trust and get help, but a lot of our lives we may find we waste a lot of opportunities to grow, because we rescue ourSELVES from a situation, instead of seeking the Lord and asking for wisdom.
The Lord will NOT rebuke you for asking for wisdom. But you must not waiver.
IF you seek the Lord for direction, for help, for salvation, for patience, for growth, He WILL meet you.
