What does the word “abomination” mean?
Abominable - to cause moral revulsive. Detestable.
Each time abomination is used, we should keep in mind that not only is a description of what the Lord thinks of the action or thing, but also that it is something that He rejects.
A more important question, what does God see as abominable.
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Haughty Eyes
Lying Tongue
Murderous Hands
Heart
Feet that run to evil
False witness
Discord
Six… Yes seven is a literary device to grab the attention of the reader. In other words, what follows is important.
Movement from the head down to the feet, pointing out that wickedness is not just in action but also in deed.
Haughty Eyes - A great deal of pride, no humility before God or man. If a person has humility before God, they should also have humility before man.
Lying Tongue - deceit for one’s own gain
Murderous Hands -disregard for the value of the lives of others.
Heart - The source of all wickedness.
Feet that run to evil - jumps at any and every opportunity to do evil, finds great joy in evil
False witness - incorrect testimony
Discord - division
