Luke 17:17 ESV
17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?
Central Idea:
“Where are the nine?” from Luke 17:17, exploring themes of faith, gratitude, and discipleship through the story of Jesus healing ten lepers. It emphasizes the distinction between merely receiving God’s blessings and responding with true gratitude and devotion.
Introduction:
Tell the story about the Dog and the Cat. The Dog thinks the Master is God. The Cat thinks it is God.
Objectives:

Between Galilee and Samaria

Galilee = a believer = a person who believed in Jesus = consider His home base
Samaria = considered dogs = foreigners = opposition to Jerusalem
Luke 17:11–12 ESV
11 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance
Matthew 13:3–8 ESV
3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, 6 but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
What are our origins? galilee or samaria?
Philippians 1:9–11 ESV
9 And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Do Blessings lead to Salvation?

What all ten did…
Luke 17:13–14 ESV
13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.
Psalm 106:13 ESV
13 But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.
Romans 1:21 ESV
21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

What Type of Faith make us whole?

Luke 17:15–19 ESV
15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
My friends, merely receiving a blessing is not the same as being a true disciple!
True discipleship is unequivocally!
Are we like the "cat" in the analogy, seeing ourselves as God for receiving care, or like the "dog," seeing our Caretaker as God because of the care we receive?
This is a call to self-examination! When was the last time you couldn’t wait to be at the feet of Jesus?
The Samaritan didn't just receive physical healing; his faith hadin a deeper, spiritual sense, indicating true salvation!
Point:  "faith without gratitude will stop short of worship" marked by deep gratitude "made him whole"
Psalm 29:1–2 ESV
1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
