Cleanseth - to make free from dirt, filth, or unwanted substances.
Filth - Dirty; foul; unclean; nasty. Polluted; defiled by sinful practices.
Job 15:14–16 “What is man, that he should be clean? And he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; Yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight. How much more abominable and filthy Is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?” (drinking dirty water)
Dirty people like dirty things.
Psalm 53:1–3 “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: There is none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (If one is not looking for God, seeking God’s will for their life, and trying to life a clean life, they are still filthy)
Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all as an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; And we all do fade as a leaf; And our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Even at our best, we’re still bad. Our righteousnesses our rotten.)
Oily Rag
Dirty Napkin
Sauce on Your Shirt
Proverbs 30:12 “There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, And yet is not washed from their filthiness.” (There are some people that are filthy and think they are clean. Pig-pen from Charlie Brown with his perpetual cloud of dust that follows him)
The only way that someone can rid of their filthiness is to be washed from their filthiness. What is the cleaner that we use to get rid of our filthiness?
Hebrews 9:14
PURGE - to cleanse!
Psalm 65:3 “Iniquities prevail against me: As for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away.”
This is why modern versions of the Bible remove the blood.
