The Grace of The Lord Jesus

Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant traditions, and through God’s  grace, the New Covenant church is for those whose hearts are circumcised by faith. 

Salvation had never been earned by following the law - because no one could. 1-11

Matthew 23:1–6 “1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees are seated in the chair of Moses. 3 Therefore do whatever they tell you, and observe it. But don’t do what they do, because they don’t practice what they teach. 4 They tie up heavy loads that are hard to carry and put them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves aren’t willing to lift a finger to move them. 5 They do everything to be seen by others: They enlarge their phylacteries and lengthen their tassels. 6 They love the place of honor at banquets, the front seats in the synagogues,”

The inward transformation by the Spirt of God is the sing and seal of the New Covenant Believer.

He that is circumcised is circumcised for fear of the Law, and he who fears the Law, distrusts the power of grace, and he who distrusts can receive no benefit from that which is distrusted.

I am informed, however, that the reason why children are baptized is that we are told in the Bible that Abraham’s children were circumcised. But why were they circumcised? Because they were Israelites. I would not hesitate to baptize any Christian, though he be a babe in Christ, as soon as he knows the Lord Jesus.—5.111

A Jew is not someone who is physically circumcised but ‘inwardly’ and ‘spiritually’ circumcised: “real circumcision is a matter of the heart” (2:29). Here Paul is drawing directly from the books of Deuteronomy and Jeremiah.

Leviticus 12:3 “3 The flesh of his foreskin must be circumcised on the eighth day.”

The inward transformation result in the desier to follow the commands of God- not to be saved but because you are saved.

Amos 9:11–12 “11 In that day I will restore the fallen shelter of David: I will repair its gaps, restore its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old, 12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear my name— this is the declaration of the Lord; he will do this.”

Leviticus 3:17 “17 This is a permanent statute throughout your generations, wherever you live: you must not eat any fat or any blood.””
