By Faith pt 2
Notes
Transcript
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.
22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones. 23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.
28 By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. 29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days. 31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.
Faith Leaves a Legacy
Each person listed here is direct built upon the legacy of the one before them.
There was around 490 years between Jacob and Rahab
490 years of faith in the promises of God for a nation and a promise land.
The nation had already come to pass, the land was still to come.
Also the promise of a Messiah
Faith Leads to Action
I am one of those if I do not think something will pan out or is futile, I tend to avoid doing it.
Each person listed had their own action to do
From vs 23-31 we see how faith leads us to take a stand. (When government tells us to violate God’s law we must stand firm in the faith and on the Word of God.)
Faith helps us be bold, and choose eternal reward over short term leisure or security.
Faith Gives us Vision
Each of these listed her kept their vision on the promise.
They show us how to look past our current situations and seasons to the promise of a perfect eternity.
The Christian used to focus on the promise of Haven, and I think we have lost that vision and need to regain it.
They all died not knowing the fullness of the mystery of Gospel, but they had faith that even though they did not know it all or get to see it, that the Lord was in control and that the promise would come to pass.
Following God will lead to trials and sacrifices, but it is through these experiences that God’s glory is revealed and our faith is strengthened.
ANNE ASKEW - THE WOMAN WHO WOULD NOT RECANT
She had William Tyndale’s translation of the new testament which at the time was illegal, but one of the biggest tools to the Modern English Bible.
Reading she came to faith in that we are saved by grace alone and through faith in Jesus made justified.
Faith took her to the tower of London to be tortured
Faith took her to a public burning at the stake
and Faith gave her strength to never renounce Jesus
Her faith helped lead to a reformation in England, which led to our ability to meet here today in freedom.
Take Home Question:
Is Faith in Jesus worth risking it all?
