Believe It or Not?

We’re going to play a game called “Believe It or Not?” Sometimes people struggle to believe God can do miracles. Other people might even tell you miracles don’t happen anymore. That same thing happens with other facts too. Many true things are hard to believe. And there are also things we’re told that can’t be backed up by truth.

I’ll read a statement. Then you’ll choose if you believe it’s true or not. Give a thumbs-up if you believe the statement is true. Give a thumbs-down if you believe the statement is false.

How did you do? Did your beliefs match the truth? (Group response) Did you learn something new today? (Group response) That’s awesome! Some of the things I asked you about were things we eat. That’s a hint about the miracle we’re going to talk about later. Get ready to hear about something even more unbelievable—but true—that God did for the prophet Elijah in our Bible story today.

Bible Story: Elijah and the Ravens

Introduction: A Washing Machine Miracle!

Question: Have you ever been so hungry you thought you might pass out?

Just like us, even Elijah knew what it was like to be hungry.

Elijah told King Ahab it wouldn’t rain for three years—no rain meant no food.

But God took care of Elijah in a surprising way!

📖 Read 1 Kings 17:1–6 (NLT) 1 Kings 17:6 (NLT): “The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.”

You Will Need:

Glass bottle, balloon (filled with baking soda), vinegar, funnel

Toy car with tiny tires

Can of soup

Table and tablecloth

Faith Fact:

I believe God can do miracles. (Say it together!)

Three Things to Know About Miracles

1. Miracles Come From God

Definition: Miracles are unexplainable by science—they come from God!

Science Experiment: Vinegar + baking soda = balloon inflates (Cool, but explainable! Not a miracle.)

Truth: Even science follows laws God created.

📖 Luke 1:37 (NLT): “For nothing is impossible with God.”

2. We Must Depend on God for Miracles

We can’t make miracles happen—we need God!

Toy Car Example: Tiny tires can only go so far. Depending on our own strength is like using toy car tires on a real car.

God = full-size tires. He carries us farther and stronger.

📖 Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

3. God Can Do Miracles in Our Life

God cares about both big and small needs.

Soup Example: 📖 2 Kings 4:41 (NLT): “Elisha said, ‘Bring me some flour.’ Then he threw it into the pot and said, ‘Now it’s all right; go ahead and eat.’ And then it did not harm them.”

Truth: If God cared about soup, He cares about your sore throat, your fears, and your needs too.

📖 Psalm 77:14 (NLT): “You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations.”

Wrap-Up

Believe + Obey = Ready for miracles.
