Introduction

There are a number of things that inspire a Pastor or minister to preach a certain sermon

For me I draw many times simply from what I am reading in the word, I draw from current events, I draw from other ministers

But from time to times I am inspired to author a sermon based on music

I throughly enjoy all genres of music, however if you get in my truck today or my car and look at my pre-saved favorite stations you will predominantly find Sports radio and Christian music

And there is a song that has seemingly taken off recently within the christian world

The Name of the song that I am talking about today is “what A God”

I want to recite the lyrics of this Chorus for you reall quick

It says

“ If the highest place I reach is at Your feet Then I've done it all If the best thing that I've seen is Your glory Then I've seen it all Your love has changed my life, forever satisfied God, You are my everything

What a God

Come on we are going to do things a little different here this morning

I know we have already had our worship service

And Our musicians were amazing, our singers were amazing the spitit of God was amazing

But I wonder what would happen around this building todayh if everyone that is able to would stand up and just begin to worship him one more time

Just begin to declare those words over your life today If the highest place I reach is at your feet then Ive done it all

If the best thing that I’ve seen is your glory the Ive seen it all

Your love has changed my life forever satisfied

God you are my everything

Come on whatever is standing in the way of you and God this morning I wish that you would lay it down on the altar today and just begin to touch heaven today

I want to minister today on this subject “ What a God”

He Is Awesome

I am going to date myself a little bit hit here this morning, but I grew up in the 90’s and I can remember the infomercials that would come on Sunday morning whle I was getting dressed and they would sing Our God is an awesome God

Always with a choir

As I began to prepare this message for today one of the tools that I use a lot is the dictionary

If I am going to make a particular point over using a certain word or if I know a word I want to use but maybe find a different way of saying it is I will refer to the dictionary and Thesaurus

And I pretty well understood the meaning of the word awesome

It means to be inspiring terrific or extraordinary, it is an expression of awe

Now I know that is not a revelatory definition to you all here today but then I began to look at the thesaurus and the Oxford English Dictionary uses 36 synonyms just to describe the word awesome I'll read them fast amazing astounding astonishing all inspiring breathtaking excellent extraordinary extremely good formidable great imposing impressive incredible inspiring magnificent mindblowing mindboggling miraculous out of this world phenomenal prodigious remarkable spectacular staggering stunning stupendous Sublime unbelievable and wonderful that's 35 of them

the 36 one I didn't even know was a real word I thought it was just made up in a Disney movie but Oxford English Dictionary uses the word super califragilistic XPalidocious

I'm telling you we serve a god that is super califragilistic X4:57alidocious 

I dont believe for one second that there is a such thing as an ordinary God or an average God

In fact i only believe there’s God

Everybody else is a fake

Every other God is a figment of somebody’s imagination

But I want to preach to you today and remind and encourage you that our God is an Awesome God

I said our God is an awesome God

That phrase that we used for our title today What A God is an idiomatic expression or phrase used to express admiration or positive regard for someone

In other words it is another way of simply saying Our God is an Awesome God

Amen even in my trial Our God is awesome

Even in my trouble What a God

Even in my situation or circumstance What a God

Even in my breakdown What a God

ERven in my breakthrough what A God

Come on I’m talking about the king of kings and Lord of Lords here today

I am talking about the one who made the sun the moon and the stars today

I am talking about the alpha and th omega today

He’s not just some God, not just another God He is an Awesome singular only God

Come on What a God What a God What a God

I read a woman’s testimony from a service much like we are having here today She said and I quote “ I’m not apologizing to you all here at church today for the way I’ve been acting

I’m not apolgizing for the way I’ve worshipped, I’m not apologizing for dancing and running and clapping and shouting

She said If you knew where he brought me from, if you knew what a mess I was in, if you knew how God showed up just on time

Hey I got news for you today if you’re in a mess don’t sit there in the muck and mire, get that old flesh up and say I’m going to worship my awesome God

Come on I want you to know and it will be a reminder for us here today that if you already know God then you already know he’s an awesome God

Come on you already know he’s spectacular, you already know he’s sublime

You already know He’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Hallelujah, and if you don’t know him then I got the best news for you today, as a matter of fact it will be the best news youve heard all week

And that is you can know him before you walk out of this building today

Before you leave here today you can know why some are clapping, some are dancing some are shout some are waving their hands

Im going to let you in on a little secret, they know God and they know that he is awesome

I know that the valleys are low and the deserts are dry

I know that the seasons are long and the wait is extended, But our God is awesome

And you don’t have to speak from King James english you can speak from any language, any education level

Come on I just came here to encourage us today

You don’t have to look very far to find the darkness, you dont have to search very long to see the evil in this world

Tsunamis and earthquakes are taking place all over this world

To the sinner, to the world it is fearful and confusing times

But to those who are in Christ Jesus it is a time of rejoicing

Come on when I think of His goodness and all He’s done for me

When I think of His Goodness and how he set me free

Come on I am talking about a God who’s greatness is unsearchable, his power is unstoppable, his glory is incomparable, his love is unchangeable

Why don’t we stop right there for a minute and remind ourselves that when we were unloveable, when the world had given up on us

God reached down into our darkness, he reached down into our valley, He reached down into our rebellion and He loved us

I want you to think about that for a moment

Long before you ever loved God, He Loevd you

Long before you ever considered him, He considered you

Long before you ever turned to Him, He turned to you

What A God, What A God

He would move heaven and earth just to be at your side

He would send angels and power just to see your breakthrough

What a God What A God

Come on we are not saying that in any little bit sarcasm \, I am telling you today that he loves the sinner just like the saint

creation magnifies the awesome acts of God. John chapter 1 and verse 3 said all things were made by Him. Not my message, but I got to throw this in — nowhere in the Bible does it say “by them.”

Now that’s a message right there all by itself. Takes some people an hour to preach that message — I can preach it in one sentence: there’s no “them” in the Bible referring to God. It’s always Him, Him, Him.

Our God is an awesome God. I said our God is an awesome God!

Hold on just a second — if that awesome God can create a lion and a lamb and make them lie down together…

if He can be the shepherd and the sheep…

if He can be the sheepfold and the shepherd…

if He can be the rose of Sharon and the lily of the valley…

I got news for you, friend —

He can be the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost all wrapped up in one!

Our God is an awesome God.

What A God What A God All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.

Colossians 1:16 goes a little further. It says: “For by Him all things were created.” Listen — things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible — all things were created by Him. And that’s not the end of it — and for Him.

Can I stop here and tell you: your lips weren’t made for a cigarette. Your lips weren’t created by God for alcohol.

 Your body wasn’t created for immorality. It was made by Him and for Him.

He made you to know Him. He made you to love Him. He made you to worship Him. He made you to live for Him. You were made by Him and for Him.

Clap your hands and shout — yes!

But that’s not the end of the story. Hebrews goes a little further. Hebrews 1:3 says, “And He upholds all things by the word of His power.” He didn’t just make it and leave it. He didn’t just make it and say, “Now you’re on your own.” But He upholds — He keeps it together. He’s the glue that keeps this whole world together.

Honey, He’s working right now. He’s working across our world right now. I’ve never seen the things happen that I’m seeing happen right now.

Do you know that at Mar-a-Lago, D Trump before he has a great big ballroom at that hotel. And he decided a couple days ago: “We’re going to have a worship service.” And somebody sent me a video of it.

I want you to know, for the first time in the history of the United States, a sitting president called a prayer meeting and a worship session. And all the people that are going to work for him were there. All the people working… I don’t care if you voted for him or not — it don’t matter to me if he was a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent — but I’m telling you: God’s moving in our nation right now. Something unique and special is happening.

Why, preacher?

Because you’ve been praying. And because God is answering our prayers.

It’s absolutely amazing when I saw government officials raising their hands, worshiping God, singing about the name of Jesus and magnifying that name. I’m telling you — I saw the tears running down their face. And I thought, who would have ever believed that was possible?

In the last 50 or 100 years since the beginning of this nation, it’s never happened — ever, anywhere, in our country.

What’s going on, preacher? Are you trying to tell us that Donald Trump is an angel?

Not on your life.

Are you trying to tell us that Donald Trump’s a man of God?

Not on your life.

But have you ever read your Bible?

Have you ever read about the kings that God put it in their heart to bless the people of God? Have you ever read your Bible about the leaders of nations that God put it in their heart to honor Him?

Oh, I’m telling you — our God is an awesome God.

I’m not giving Donald Trump credit. I’ve come to preach to you: our God is an awesome God.

Come on What A God, What A mighty God we serve

For those of you that are in a mess right now — could be a bunch of us — those of you that have been fighting with the devil, fighting with a few folk… For those of you that feel like you’ve been under attack… For those of you that are weak… For those of you that feel beaten down… I want you to know that the awesome power of God to deliver is beyond comprehension.

I’m telling you, His power to specifically deliver you — preacher, you don’t know the mess I’m in — I don’t, but He does. And the Bible said He can deliver you out of any trouble. He can deliver you out of any trouble.

There isn’t anything too big. There’s nothing too dreary. There’s nothing too hard. There’s nothing so sad that our awesome God can’t deliver you.

The Bible says in Daniel 3:25 that God rescued the three Hebrew boys out of the fiery furnace.

Say, “Oh Brother Bennett, if He was really God, He’d keep me from going into the fiery furnace.”

He does that sometimes. But there’s a lot of times He lets you go in.

Because it’s a great big miracle when He delivers you out of your trouble. When He delivers you from trouble — that’s not as much of a testimony, because very often, you don’t even know that trouble was right in front of you. He delivers you before you get there — you don’t even know what happened.

But honey, when you’re in the middle of the fiery furnace…

But the king looks in and said, “Hold on just a minute. Didn’t we put three in there? How is it I see a fourth one — and the fourth one looks like the Son of God?”

What is it?

I got news for you, honey — He’s going to deliver you out of your problems. He’s going to deliver you out of the fiery furnace. He’s going to deliver you out of the middle of the mess of your lifetime!

Oh, somebody needs to hear me today — our God is an awesome God!

Say Amen, somebody!

Go a little further in the book of Daniel — Daniel 6:22 says, “God delivered Daniel from the lion’s den.”

The Bible says the devil is like — everybody say “like.” Like is not the same as is. The Bible does not say he is a roaring lion — it says he’s like one.

Guess what? I’ve got a child that think they’re lions sometimes. “Rawr, ”

That’s all that’s happening when the devil comes around you — he’s trying to appear like a lion.

He’s not a lion.

Jesus Christ is the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

He’s a fake. I said he’s a fake.

When you find yourself where it looks like a whole pride of lions has got you cornered, and your back’s against the wall, and they’re all around you trying to scare you…
