207. Parable of the Barren Fig Tree
Matthew and Mark are telling the same event see the comparisons
leaving Bethany/heading to Jerusalem
he was hungry
noticed a fig tree
lookin for figs only found leaves
Differences
by the road vs a little way off
Mark says it wasn’t the season for fruit
Matt says may you never bear fruit again while mark says may no one ever eat your fruit again
Matt say the tree withered up while Mark says the disciples heard him say it.
Luke uses the barren fig tree as a parable to illustrate unrepentance

211. Exclusion from the Kingdom
All three synoptics deal with people being saved or excluded from the kingdom.
Mark just talks about a man who asked how to have the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew and Luke have several similarities
narrow gate/door
Jesus said away from me in both
weeping and gnashing of teeth
both talk about all people/nations coming (east west north south/east west) feast/take place in Kingdom of Heaven/God
both emphasize role reversal, first/last least/greatest
212. A Warning against Herod
Only Luke records this event.
213. The Lament over Jerusalem - (See no 285)
Both Matthew and Luke are word for word except Matthew adds “and desolate to vs 38 and adds “for I tell you this” at the beginning of vs 39 where Luke just has “And.”
214. The Healing of the Man with Dropsy
Only Luke records this event.
215. Teaching on Humility
Luke tells an incident where people were seeking seats at the head of the table and Jesus tells them to look for a seat at the foot of the table. That way they well be recongized instead of humilited.
Matthew has a quote from Lukes story… but it centers around the criticism of religious leaders.
John talks about having eternal life being granted to those who have done good, and Luke records Jesus saying the resurrection of the righteous there will be a reward for those who did things for those who could not repay them.
