Mark 4:35-41

Does anything stand out to you in this passage we just read?
Let’s do perspective.
The disciples.
What were the disciples thinking from start to finish? (Remember there are 12 of them so there are 12 possibilities.)
Getting in the boat to go across the water.
The storm (Many of the disciples made their living on this water and were probably steering the ship.)
Jesus Calms the Storm!
Jesus saying, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
what do you think went through their minds when he said this.
What do you suppose Jesus meant by this?
Verse 41?
Mark 5:1-20
What stands out to you from this passage?
You do perspective this time. Pick someone and think about their situation and their possible thoughts or feelings in the moment.
The disciples
The demon possessed and then delivered man
Jesus
The Pig herders
The people who witnessed the crazy man delivered
Why would they beg for Jesus to leave?
Fear (where else did we see fear)
Financial loss
Conscience - If they were Jewish being a Jewish Pig herder was probably hard on their conscience.
Mark 5:21-43
Someone separate out the stories for me. What were the two main things that happened here?
Ok, do perspective. (Allow students and leaders to pick out key points and work them out)
**Let’s start with the Woman with the issue of bleeding.
*Now lets finish with the dead girl being resurrected.
TAKE AWAY:
Ok, we did lots of perspective tonight and we learned some truths along the way. But now let’s think about this whole study tonight and try to understand what Mark the author of this book is trying to convey.
Remember this is a Gospel letter written by Mark so that people would understand the good news of Jesus.
Mark Chapter 1 - Mark is letting us know that Jesus is qualified to be the Messiah
Mark Chapter 2 - Mark is telling us that Jesus came to transform our heart and our idea of who God really is and what he wants from and for us.
Mark Chapter 3 - Mark is telling us where Jesus’s power comes from and that it’s not good to harden your heart and turn your back on what God is doing.
Mark Chapter 4 - Mark tells us through Jesus parables that Faith takes work and can be hard. Jesus tells us not to miss the truth that’s right in front of us. Jesus himself!!
***So! What is Mark trying to tell us at the end of Chapter 4 and chapter 5?
Jesus has Power of Nature
Jesus has Power over Demons
Jesus has Power over Desease
Jesus has Power over Death
What does this say about Jesus?
***Take a minute to think about a time in your life when you were in a situation where you felt afraid, hurt, sick, mentally exhausted, just out of sorts… What did your perspective of God look like in that situation? (FC)
Do you feel like you can trust Jesus in whatever situation you are in?
