INTRO

EVER FELT LIKE IF ONE MORE THING HAPPENED YOU WERE GOING TO EXPLODE?
APPLE STEVE JOBS. ONE MORE THING. 1999 FIRST TIME USED. JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT’S OVER, STEVE JOBS WOULD SAY ONE MORE THING. USED 20-25 TIMES.
JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT’S OVER, HE WOULD SAY, “ONE MORE THING”.
THE LIFE OF JESUS WAS FILLED WITH HIM SAYING ONE MORE THING.

MAIN POINT

Luke 23:34–39 NLT
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”* And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.* The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed. “He saved others,” they said, “let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine. They called out to him, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” A sign was fastened above him with these words: “This is the King of the Jews.” One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!”

1. ONE MORE THING ABOUT FORGIVENESS - A THIEF

A. THE DARKEST MOMENTS ARE WHEN HIS GRACE SHINES THE BRIGHTEST.
JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED AT ABOUT 9AM AND ON THE CROSS UNTIL ABOUT 3PM. FROM 12PM TO 3PM THERE WAS DARKNESS OVER THE LAND.
B. BOTH THIEVES HAD EQUAL ACCESS TO JESUS.
THEY BOTH SAW THE SIGN.
THEY BOTH HEARD HIM SAY FATHER FORGIVE THEM.
THEY RESPONDED COMPLETELY OPPOSITE OF ONE ANOTHER.

Luke 23:40–43 NLT
But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
C. ONE THIEF FOCUSED ON THE END, THE OTHER FOCUSED ON THE BEGINNING.
D. IT THAT MOMENT THE THIEF WAS FULLY KNOWN AND FULLY SAVED.
Ephesians 2:8–9 NLT
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
SUPPORT
E. JESUS WAS STILL ON THE THRONE AND HIS WORD WAS STILL IN CONTROL.

2. ONE MORE THING ABOUT DEATH - JESUS

Luke 23:45–49 NLT
The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!”* And with those words he breathed his last. When the Roman officer* overseeing the execution saw what had happened, he worshiped God and said, “Surely this man was innocent.*” And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow.* But Jesus’ friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching.
A. JESUS DIED CONFIDENTLY AND WILLINGLY.
John 10:17–18 NLT
“The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”
WE SHOULD NOT CONFUSE DEATH FOR WEAKNESS.
B. TETELESTAI
Isaiah 53:5–8 NLT
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all. He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people.

D. DEATH WAS NOT DEFEAT, DEATH WAS DECIDED VICTORY.
C. THE CROSS WAS NOT THE END OF JESUS’ STORY, IT WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
Luke 24:1–7 NLT
But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes. The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”
D. WHAT DOES THIS REALLY MEAN FOR YOU?

3. ONE MORE THING ABOUT YOUR STORY

A. YOUR PAST
Romans 8:28 NLT
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
ONLY ONE NAME CAN GIVE HOPE IN A HOSPITAL ROOM.
B. YOUR PRESENT
John 10:10 NLT
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
JESUS DOESN’T WANT YOU TO MERELY SURVIVE, BUT HE WANTS YOU TO THRIVE.
C. YOUR FUTURE
SUPPORT
Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Will your future be a future filled with faith?
Faith is not believing in spite of evidence, but obeying in spite of consequence.
Hebrews 12:2 NLT
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.
The thief on the cross was me. The thief on the cross was you.

RESULT: RESULT OF INFO

EVEN WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR STORY HAS BEEN WRITTEN, JESUS HAS ONE MORE THING FOR YOU.
Romans 8:1–2 NLT
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
Galatians 2:20 NLT
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
