Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
The Reason for Christmas
The Reason for Christmas
1. Since we are human, God became a human in Jesus.
2. Jesus could not die unless he became a man.
3. Jesus came to destroy the devil, the one with the power of death.
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
4. Jesus came to deliver us from the slavery we have because we are afraid to die.
and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
How Does This Child Destroy the Devil?
How Does This Child Destroy the Devil?
1. The word destroy doesn't mean the devil is no longer in existence. The devil is still with us today. But his back has been broken.
2. Satan has the power of death because he makes it a doorway to hell not heaven. He condemns us by record of our sins. Satan has a file on you!
3. Jesus canceled the record of our debt. This disarms Satan, because Satan is the great accuser.
by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
4. Jesus destroyed Satan by removing the weapon that is the record of our debt. Now we are free from condemnation, and therefore death.
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
So Why Christmas?
So Why Christmas?
1. A child was born of a virgin, and named Jesus so we could be free from death, free from fear, and full of hope!
2. Christmas is the starting point of this freedom we can only find through Jesus.
3. This child named Jesus is the only one who can help us through temptation.
Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
