Jude 8–10 ESV
8 Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. 9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.” 10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively.

Be Aware!

Jude 8 ESV
8 Yet in like manner these people also, relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones.
Meaning let’s look back at the previous verse because this one connects back to verse 7...those in Sodom/Gomorrah...the sexual immorality...these folks in leading people astray are in the same way in utter moral rebellion.
Notice how Jude says they are “relying on their dreams”...he connects to the fact that these thoughts are not Scripture, not divinely connected, not in anyway provable...They are hedonistic...
Look how Peter deals with the same concepts...
2 Peter 1:16 ESV
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
He says...”did not follow cleverly devised myths”...
In essence, this is not some made up vision/dream that does not coincide with Scripture.
If you test the message to determine if it is from the Lord...you can know if it is “cleverly devised” in its untruth.
1 Thessalonians 5:21 ESV
21 but test everything; hold fast what is good.
1 John 4:1 ESV
1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Three things:
Keep the Temple Holy
Submit to Scriptural Authority
Honor what should be honored
2 Peter 2:10 ESV
10 and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones,
So we should BE AWARE! of what is at stake.
What is at stake is the Gospel!
Be Aware! of those who would lead astray.
Know the Word that your are not led astray.

Be Real!

Jude 9 ESV
9 But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you.”
What is this verse about? —we do not have the record of this contention...there are scholars who make arguments about the extra biblical literature begin discussed, but we have no record of it.
What do we know of Michael?
He is the archangel.
He is a warrior.
He would be considered the top.
But he did not say “I rebuke you.”
Notice the thought just before his proclamation:
“he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment.”
Michael was sober minded and knew his place and the Lord’s place.
He is creature not Creator.
He knew nothing was of him, but of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:10 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Be Right!

Jude 10 ESV
10 But these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively.
let’s acknowledge that these folks spoke about the heavenly ideas and concepts.
most times people are willing to share their opinion, but sometimes the intention is to deliver an opinion that leads astray.
1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV
18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Why would the Gospel be folly to them...because they are spiritually devoid of the Christ and therefore they cannot see truth.
2 Peter 2:12 ESV
12 But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction,
