Spiritual Warfare

What happens when I forget God's goodness?
How we feel when the enemy attacks

I start claiming credit for things that God did for me

Build bigger barns

I stop asking God for help

Our prayer life becomes - weak - routine – nonexistent

I stop trusting God in difficult times

When sick where do we go?

I become pessimistic about the future

No hope

How do we get our hope back?

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Psalm 23:1 NIV
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
The Lord is My Shepherd
What do shepherds do?
Most famous people in the bible was a shepherd David
Moses was a shepherd
Abraham was a shepherd
Shepherd came to visit Jesus as a child
Jesus said he was the Good Shepherd

Shepherd’s Protect

Psalm 23:4 NIV
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Sheep very defenseless creatures
Actually, Sheep are kinda of dumb
With a staff the shepherd can protect the sheep.
The ROD is a club
What a beautiful picture

Shepherd’s Provide

Sheep need food, water and shelter
Psalm 23:2 He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters.
Psalm 23:2 NIV
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
Lord's Prayer

“Give us this day our daily beard”

God is the source of everything I need
You don't have to look anywhere else.
You know what sin is right?
God I’m good, I got this, nothing to see here
You don’t got this – you need desperate help

Shepherd’s Guide

Well let’s be frank!  We need guidance
We are not here by accident
James 1:5 NLT
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

There is nothing I need that God can't supply

NIV “I lack nothing”
KJV I shall not want
I looked this phrase up – Yeah, I lack nothing
God is the source of everything I need
Let’s ask the question

Why worry?

God doesn't want me worrying about anything.
Philippians 4:6 Don’t worry about anything,
Instead, pray about everything
You can pray, or you can panic

Five reasons worry is worthless

Worry doesn’t make any sense

Matthew 6:25 NIV
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
The reasons worry doesn’t make sense?
We worry about the wrong things - it’s all temporary
To worry about something, you can't change is useless.
If you can change it then do so
Have you noticed this?
That anytime you worry about something, it keeps getting bigger in your mind. e.g. An unkind word

Nature does not worry

Matthew 6:26 Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?
Matthew 6:26 NIV
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Are you?
Worry is learned!!!
Babies don’t worry
Now, anything that’s learned can be unlearned

Worry is useless

It doesn’t work.
Matthew 6:27 NLT
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
Can I change the past?
Can I change the future?
Worry makes you sick!!!!

Worry is not necessary

The Lord is your shepherd
He does what?
Protects
Provides
Guides
Matthew 6:30 If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you—you of little faith?
Matthew 6:30 NLT
And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

Worry is unbelief

Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet (most of) ______ your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19 NIV
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Isn’t that what worry is saying
You not big enough - so I’ll worry about it
How do I trust God to meet my needs?
Every day ask him to be my shepherd
Give Jesus first place in every area of your life
Give him your worries in prayer
Trust him one day at a time
