Yeshua or Jesus?

The Bible was written in multiple languages.

Hebrew - Old Testament

Greek - New Testament

Aramaic - New Testament

Later it was translated into Latin.

Yeshua is a Hebrew name.

It comes from Yasha - to save or to deliver

Yeshua is a Noun - Salvation - and a Declaration of the Lord- - YAHWAY Saves

- so Yeshua is the Hebrew name that Jesus was known by in His time and culture.

So what about the name Jesus?

Well, In English, Yeshua is actually translated to Joshua!

Yeshua transliterated into Greek is Lesous . And from Greek to English - Jesus.

So in reality - Joshua and Jesus are both names for Yeshua - in English.

And that may be confusing.

But it does not have to be.

Changing the language of the “word” does not change the meaning of His Word!

Akiba (Hebrew), Cobus (Dutch), , Jakob (German) Hakob (Armenian), Hemi (Morai), Iacobus (biblical Latin) - All JACOB

Church - Ekklesia (Greek), khanesiya (Hebrew), klisa (Pashto), halepule (hawaiia)

The language changes, but the object itself does not change.

Jesus - Lesu (Hawaiian), Chua Gieso (Vietnamese), Esi (pashto), Gesu (Italian) , Jesu (Fiji)

No matter the language - It means “the Lord of Salvation”.

We are in America and we use our version of English.

Savior - American

Saviour - British

Look at Paul’s writing

Romans 5:6 “For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.”

Paul even used a “different” name for Jesus.

Christ - anointed one (Greek), or Messiah (Hebrew)

So what about languages?

We cannot fall into a fear of languages, or think that a specific language is the only language.

On the day of Pentecost, God lists plenty of languages that are used.

Acts 2:9–11 “Parthians, Medes, Elamites; those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts), Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the magnificent acts of God in our own tongues.””

Acts 2:21 “Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

We call on the name of the Lord - in whatever language we have. plain and simple.
